Small jobs welcome

"Ted from Ridgeline was an absolute professional! His communication skills made us feel comfortable and his workmanship was unmatched retrofitting a house that was built in 1950 that never had AC and being a master electrician fixed other issues that came up. Ridgeline was fair and honest, certainly a reputation that will keep us calling Ridgeline in the future!"

"Josiah did a great job on my dryer vent duct work. This ductwork was behind the wall and only accessible from the vents. Everything looked like metal semi-rigged duct work from what could be seen from both ends. I started cleaning the ducts myself then I noticed insulation coming out of the vents instead of dryer lint about midway down the ducting. Thats when I called home advisor and was connected with Wisconsin Natural Air Duct Cleaning. The material hidden in the wall was plastic flex ducting that had began to fail due to age and isn't suited to cleaning anyway (should just be replaced.) Josiah did a great job replacing the plastic with metallic flex ducting. I'll use WNADC again for some future projects."

"Excellent service, very fast response to my request for service, picked up laptop, diagnosed issues. Initially thought it was an OS update issue but the hard drive had failed along with other components (including 'CPU). Because other components were involved, a new solid state hard drive was put into a laptop with a working processor - same type CPU as in the failed unit. The laptop was repaired and returned in less than a week. This company picked up and dropped off the laptop (driving from Huntsville, AL (about 60-70 minutes)-- great service in this covid environment. I would recommend this company to my family./friends and will use again."

"The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars across the board is that, over the phone, Steve promised all the "bells and whistles" for the quoted price. I even asked a second time, at the end of our phone call, if the quoted price included the disinfecting and deodorizing. but when the workers came to do the work, the other services were extra. And, there was no written invoice. I just paid the workers the agreed-upon price. Insist on having the quote IN WRITING, even if it is just done as an e-mail. I wondered why I couldn't find an e-mail address to correspond with them. There was only a phone number, so everything was verbal. Other than that, the workers left the heating and cooling ducts absolutely spotless. But again, get your quotes IN WRITING so there will be no surprises."

"I cannot say enough good things about Rich and his crew at Custom Craft Environmental. After having our sump get overwhelmed by 7+ inches of rain, we were lost. Made several calls to "national" water clean up companies with no reason. Rich was at our house 2 hrs after we called and his crew was there the next morning. They were efficient, helpful, knowledgeable, kind, punctual. Price was good and work was excellent. We highly, highly recommend."

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Not if you have a standard unit. Because portable AC units actually work to dehumidify the room, you’ll likely need to drain the unit from time to time—but you won’t have to put water into it. There is, however, another type of air conditioner called a swamp cooler that requires water to operate. If you have a swamp cooler, you may need to fill a reservoir with water and potentially ice. But a swamp cooler is different from a standard portable AC unit.

The time it takes for an air conditioner to dry fully after cleaning depends on the unit's size and humidity levels. Most units will dry within two to four hours after cleaning, but check the manufacturer's recommendations for drying times. Make sure to leave the unit off until it's completely dry.

Yes. It's not just AC filters that get dirty. Ducts can accumulate dust and dirt quickly. Insects and animals can also get into duct systems, creating many problems. Dirt build-up and unwanted guests can constrict the airflow and cause rooms not to cool evenly. You might also see higher energy bills because they're not working as efficiently.

No, heat pump maintenance needs are very similar to air conditioners, including keeping outdoor units clean, changing filters regularly, and occasionally scheduling a refrigerant check to see if any has leaked out. Heat pumps typically switch automatically between heating and cooling, so you don’t need to worry about manually changing them every season. However, since they are always on call, they can develop wear and tear faster than an air conditioner.

Keeping your air filter clean is crucial for your heat pump's efficiency. As a general rule, you should check your air filter every 1 to 3 months. However, the actual frequency might vary depending on factors like the type of filter, indoor air quality, and the amount of dust and debris in your area. If you notice the filter is visibly dirty or clogged, it's a clear sign it needs attention sooner. Regular filter maintenance ensures proper airflow and helps your heat pump perform optimally, keeping your indoor air fresh and comfortable.
