"Chris was excellent! He responded to my inquiry for an estimate immediately. I scheduled the work to be done and he was at my home promptly to clean my gutters. I even had an extra request which he accommodated! I appreciated his attention to detail, as well as his professionalism. I highly recommend him/New View Window Cleaning!"

"Service was prompt and company communicated well. I appreciated Michael's willingness to walk me through the process. He went above and beyond by crawling under my deck to clean the vents."

"Good house cleaner that has cleaned for me several times, however the service is very expensive. I was quoted $40 per hour. Before she started cleaning this day, I discussed with Elvira about coming twice a month and only cleaning the master bath and kitchen & half of the house and the following visit cleaning the other half (I clean in between her visits) because of the cost involved. Elvira was in agreement. She then informed me that she had someone waiting in her car that will clean for me today and she would not be staying. I was not comfortable with that so Elvira said she would stay and clean with her new employee. She charged me $40 an hour for herself and $40 an hour for her new helper ($80 an hour)!!! I was shocked! Be sure to find out the costs before hiring (not just the hourly fee) otherwise it’s an open checkbook for her service!"

"KI Construction came in and took down a upstairs deck, and rebuild it. Took no time to rebuild. The crew was great to work with and cleaned up after themselves which was great. You can tell Konstantin wants his company to grow with good results, which shows. Have more projects for him to complete!"

"We recently had our kitchen remodeled by Jonathan with JL Cleaning LLC, and we are extremely happy with the results. From the beginning, Jonathan was professional, communicative, and very detail-oriented. He made sure everything was done correctly and kept us informed throughout the entire process. The quality of work exceeded our expectations, and our kitchen looks absolutely beautiful. The space was kept clean and organized, and the project stayed on schedule. I highly recommend JL Cleaning LLC to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality work."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Rot loves moisture, so deck rot typically impacts the parts of a board that stay wet. This includes the underside of boards, in addition to support posts and joists. However, any part of a board can rot, given the right conditions.

Whether composite decking is better than wood depends on your priorities, especially regarding budget and maintenance. Composite decking offers superior longevity (30 to 50 years) and durability, and it is low-maintenance, requiring no sanding, staining, or sealing. In contrast, wood decks typically last 10 to 30 years and need refinishing every few years. While the upfront cost of composite is higher than wood, the reduced maintenance can lead to long-term savings. If a lower initial cost is the primary factor, wood is the more affordable choice.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

Whether you need a permit depends on the deck design and local regulations. Most areas mandate a building permit if the deck is over a specific height or if it's attached to a pre-existing structure. Shorter, freestanding decks may not require a permit, but you should check with local zoning ordinances and your homeowners association for specifics.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.
