I'm Home Depots kitchen remodeler and installer for the Olympic Peninsula (Sequim, Port Angeles, Port Townsend to Forks) I've built and remodeled a little of everything over the years. Dog house to the big house and they are all still standing. Please take a minute to look over our web site www.my-work-photos.com. I love to take before and after photos of my our work. My right hand business partner Sunburst Builders has been a contractor for 20 years. Together we team up to get your project done the way you invisioned it. • Creates a relaxing space to enjoy in your yard.

One of the most important parts of building a pond is digging the right depth. Your pond needs to be at least one to two feet deep. The specifics of the depth will depend on factors such as the placement of the pond and whether you plan on having fish. If you have fish in your pond, it will need to be at least two feet deep.

A koi pond should be at least 5 feet deep to keep the fish healthy and ensure they don’t freeze in winter. Koi fish are also known for growing large, so the more room you have, the better. A larger koi pond size will allow the fish to grow bigger than a smaller one will, and the more fish you have, the bigger the pond you’ll need. Learn how to build a pond in your backyard to ensure it remains functional and aesthetically pleasing for a long time.

DIY kits are available, but professional installation ensures proper water flow, electrical safety, and leak prevention.

You have several options for your pond by getting your yard ready for the winter. You can winterize your koi pond by ensuring it’s at least 5 feet deep so it doesn’t freeze completely, installing a pond heater or aerator and having it run at all times, and installing a deicer if temperatures are dangerously low for an extended period. You can also choose to shut down your pond for the winter by removing all the wildlife in it and bringing it indoors, cleaning out the filter and pump, and then covering the pond with a tarp.
