"Absolute Solutions is the absolute best! Gary Ristk had previously installed my garage doors but I still got three bids for tearing down my deck and creating a large concrete patio. It's beautiful and with Gary's suggestions is absolutely what I wanted. He has the very hardest workers I have ever seen. Very proficient, smart, friendly and helpful. The deck was down and removed in just hours. Something I thought would take at least two days. I'm very satisfied and will definitely call AS again!"

"Josh and his team are miracle workers. We recently purchased a home that needs lots of TLC. The front porch and side/rear wood deck surfaces had been neglected for years. Josh was first of several contractors to respond to our request on HomeAdvisor. His estimate provided us the best price, best materials, best plan, and a realistic timetable for completion during COVID. He was happy to make changes to the plan mid-project. Adam, the construction team leader, went above and beyond to ensure our complete satisfaction. You can tell by my gushing that we are thrilled with their work and work ethic. When Josh came by to inspect the finished project, We asked him for a bid to build a mud room and modify our kitchen. Highly recommended!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

If you want to make a deck cleaner from products already in your home, there are various options. The most common is to use a gentle blend of 1 gallon of warm water and 2 tablespoons of ammonia-free dish soap. You can also mix water with distilled vinegar. Sprinkling on some baking soda can help to remove mold and mildew. You can add oxygen bleach (but never damaging chlorine bleach) to the water and ammonia-free dish soap solution for something a bit stronger.

Yes, deck footings typically require an inspection before laying down concrete. While not all local building codes require footing inspection, proper placement ensures a safe and structurally sound deck. An inspector will verify that the deck can adequately hold what you put on top of it., and that the footings have been dug to the correct dimensions.

In general, you need a footing at each corner of your deck, and within 8 feet of each other. So, how many you need depends on the size and shape of your deck, plus any local building codes. It also depends on factors like the load capacity of your soil and the weight of your deck. You can find a footing calculator online or contact a pro for support.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation or substructure for support. This base is typically a frame composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame can be built from various materials, such as composite, plastic, timber, or metal, depending on your budget, deck type, and environmental conditions. For maximum stability, a professional deck builder may recommend installing this frame on top of a solid concrete base. It is best to discuss the most suitable substructure design and materials for your specific project with a professional.

Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation.
