"They came to look at some work on a Saturday and just did it rite then. I wasn't expecting that so was thrilled. Did a great job on a totally miserable project, got it done quickly, cleaned up and cost was very fair. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat"

Dillon established In-Depth Excavation in 2018 following years of experience. What started as a side job for family and friends turned into an ambitious passion and career. Dillon served on the 24-hour on-call duty rotation team for five years. At his First-panel interview he was offered an entry-level position with Alderwood Water and Wastewater District (AWWD). Dillon advanced through the ranks, exceeded qualifications, and was the youngest to be promoted to Utility Worker Lead in company history.\nIn December 2017, Dillon was presented with the Arden Blackledge “Excellence in Leadership” award which is the highest annual honor given at AWWD.\n\nHe was employed by various contractors working on storm, water, sewer mains, demo, plus grading and restoring for two years. Dillon proudly serves Western Washington and is on course for growth to establish In-Depth Excavation as a competitor in diverse markets.

"I needed to stabilize a slope. Norberto presented a plan for a retaining wall and drainage that was both functional and attractive. He provided a detailed bid for labor and materials that was competitive with several other companies He and his crew completed the job efficiently while taking care not to damage existing shrubbery and ornamentals. Norberto is professional and easy to work with. He was very good about coordinating with me. I have and will continue to use his company for other projects."

"Scope of project was removal of existing concrete pavers and hemlock stump, then installing 7-9 rockery flat steps made of natural basalt rockery rocks. We were thoroughly happy with the work from Seattle Rockeries. Harry and his crew were very knowledgeable, fast and friendly. Sharing pics of before and after."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Excavation and grading are both generally necessary for designing your foundation, and leveling the ground where your foundation will go. These steps can also prepare the area by removing vegetation and anything else that could interfere with your home’s foundation.

While you can save some money by digging your own pool, you may end up paying more in construction equipment rental fees in the long run. You could, however, focus your DIY energies on lowering the cost of leveling your lawn for your pool or filling in surrounding landscaping after construction.

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.

Digging a bush up by the roots is the most natural DIY method for removing a bush stump. Start by identifying the shrub type and revealing its roots. Cut the shrub to its base and loosen the soil, ensuring no utility lines are nearby. Optionally, treat the base with herbicide, then dig around the roots and cut a circle around the shrub using various tools. Dig a trench, cut the base of the root ball, and finally fill the hole to prevent regrowth. This thorough process ensures complete removal without damaging surrounding areas.
