"Derek was easy to communicate with, arrived right on time, worked efficiently, and was respectful of me and my home. He made sure I liked how the pendant light was hung, and adjusted the height when we agreed it was too low. He recommended and quickly completed a small amount of additional work in the guest room that will save me future headaches. I love that MasPro is a small family business too… I would absolutely hire again for any future electrical or plumbing work."

"Mark at ON Electric is probably the very best tradesperson I've ever dealt with on home projects. We've asked him to tackle a few projects over the past several years, and he's not only highly competent, efficient and expedient, but also rather remarkable when it comes to troubleshooting difficult situations. There hasn't been an instance yet where he hasn't been able to solve a problem through innovative thinking and the expertise to back it up. All that, plus he's a very personable and sharp guy. Whenever we have something to deal with in terms of the electrical side of home repair, I don't even think to look elsewhere. And I'm not one of those people who's loyal to a fault. If something isn't done just right, I don't go back to that person/company. Mark and ON Electric get it right."

At Square 1 Electric, Inc we are an experienced and highly recommended contractor, serving the electrical needs of residential and commercial properties from new installations to electrical maintenance and troubleshooting. We specialize in service, repairs and installations. We appreciate our past customers, current customers, and look forward to earning your business too! We’re specialists in the service and installation of electrical systems, and have a comprehensive knowledge of new technologies, as well as systems that have been installed for years. We are a locally owned and operated company that takes pride in our honest up front pricing, as well as the 10 year warranty that we offer. We can't wait to impress you.

"Never hire Square One. Initially our only problem was that they got into an argument with the inspector regarding electrical code related to grounding the entire system. Once that was resolved and inspector had signed off, we figured that the minor remaining issues could be fixed by my husband (an electrical engineer). Minor being a couple incorrectly wired light switches. However we found a major issue today in the process of moving a kitchen cabinet. Rather than properly rewire the kitchen outlets, we discovered that they had simply run the wire through the back of the cabinets. That means that none of it was done to code because all wire is required to go through studs. Code is there to prevent accidental cutting of wires which is exactly what happened while we were removing the cabinet. We strongly recommend that no one ever hire Square One."

"We recently had Prairie Electric install a Kohler home generator for us. Our experience was excellent starting with the initial phone call to discuss our requirements to installation and then follow-up service after the final inspections were completed. Prairie Electric is a most professional electrical contractor, and I would highly recommend their services. Based our recent experiences I rate them a well deserved five stars!"

I offer everything from general handyman services to full scale remodels/additions. No job is too small. My company consists of myself and my wife who is also my helper. I usually do not subcontract any work out as I can do most all of it myself. If there is something that does require a subcontractor, I will work with the client to find one that is acceptable. I can draw up plans as well as pull permits. I make sure to go over every aspect of my bids so the client knows exactly what they are getting from the very beginning. I show up to work on time and try very hard to keep my work area as clean as possible. I will work on weekends if necessary. I will try my very best to make sure the client is completely satisfied. I stand behind my work 100%. I will not quit until the job is done correctly to the satisfaction of the client.

"Glen came to house and examined door. Determined that the house had settled to the point that the frame would need to be adjusted. Gave a very reasonable estimate and returned a week later. Expertly performed work as described. Result: front door opens, closes and locks/bolts perfectly aligned."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

For a 12x12 room, a fan between 36" and 50" will work, as it falls in the range for spaces up to 144 square feet. These size fans provide adequate air circulation and ensure a comfortable environment without being overpowering. Even better, they come in a broad range of styles, offering aesthetics and functionality, making them suitable choices for maintaining an ideal room temperature and enhancing overall comfort.

The ceiling box should have an inscription stating that it supports the operation of the ceiling fan. If it’s not included, you should purchase a fan-rated junction box and a fan brace so you can install the box between joists, where it’ll provide the most support for the fan’s weight.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.
