"If you are looking for a responsible and capable contractor to do high quality work with a lot of attention to detail, look no further than Jared at Carbide Construction. We couldn’t have asked for things to turn out any more amazing than they did! It was a small job- just a new set of stairs coming off our house down to our patio- but Jared made it a work of art. He has a great eye and made some suggestions to the final design we are so happy with. In addition to great quality of work, his pricing was very fair and he used great materials. The stairs he built for us are a real show piece in our space and we are enjoying not only using them but looking at them. We will always call Jared for any woodworking/ construction needs."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

Yes, professionals re-mount and realign antennas for optimal signal reception.

Yes, a bowed wall can be straightened in several ways. If the bowing is minimal, it can often be straightened by installing anchors or straps. For more severe basement wall bowing, your contractor might need to excavate the soil outside the foundation and pull the wall back into its original position to straighten it.

Signs of structural damage include foundation cracks, roof leaks, bouncy floors, crumbling concrete, and cracked or leaning chimneys. Structural damage can make itself apparent in various ways, and sometimes, there may not be obvious signs. Inspect your foundation and roof annually to stay ahead of potentially serious structural problems.
