"I used Triple V as the Project Engineer for a garage conversion to single family residence for my son’s family. Vic not only did the engineering for us, he also did the structural drawings we submitted to the county as part of our permit package. He delivered the plans promptly, and worked collaboratively with us to resolve issues we identified and revise the drawings accordingly. The county building department approved the plans and issued the permit. During the project construction Vic patiently responded to questions from us (we’re DIY’ers, not professional builders) and offered/provided certifications to revisions we jointly agreed to. Overall, Triple V provided what was promised at an outstanding value."

"I had the pleasure of working with Bryson on a recent project, and I couldn’t be more impressed with their work. From start to finish, Bryson demonstrated extensive knowledge and expertise in structural engineering. They took the time to understand the project’s unique needs and provided clear, practical solutions that ensured everything was both safe and efficient. One of the standout qualities was their excellent communication. They kept me informed at every stage, answering questions promptly and offering advice when needed. Even when challenges arose, Bryson approached them with professionalism and a problem-solving mindset, ensuring that the project stayed on track. The quality of the work was exceptional. Every detail was carefully considered, and I felt confident in the structural integrity of the design. Bryson truly went above and beyond, offering both technical skill and a genuine commitment to the project’s success. Thank you and I look forward to working with you again."

"It was a very in depth view or snapshot of what the structure conditions currently were and a extra recommended opinion for DYI or hire a professional for any deficiencies. The only reason I didn’t rate 5/5 on professionalism was due to the fact that it was not a “commercial chain” business. This is a local small business owner I try to support local businesses. Do not be mistaken, the quality of services provided was far better than what you would expect for corporate businesses. The report provided was easy to read and I had no questions however, he did tell me that if I had any he would answer my questions so I could understand. To give you an idea of my situation was, I needed a home inspection for a house that I wanted to buy here in Washington but I was in Afghanistan at the time. The report was clear with pictures and added graphics so even not being local at the time I was able to have confidence enough in the service provided to move forward on the sale. Great job."

"It was excellent. They performed insulation quickly and efficiently. The cost was in-line with the quote. I was very satisfied with their work and I would use them again. Their price was fair. "

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Although the two terms are closely related and often used interchangeably, pier and beam foundations and crawl spaces are different things. A pier and beam foundation is made up of concrete piers and wooden beams and creates a space under the home known as a crawl space. There are several types of foundations that create crawl spaces, often collectively known as “crawl space foundations,” but the crawl space itself is separate from the foundation.

Signs of structural damage include foundation cracks, roof leaks, bouncy floors, crumbling concrete, and cracked or leaning chimneys. Structural damage can make itself apparent in various ways, and sometimes, there may not be obvious signs. Inspect your foundation and roof annually to stay ahead of potentially serious structural problems.

No, squeaky floors do not always mean there is structural damage. The noise is often caused by friction from issues like loose floorboards, gaps between the subfloor and joists, or loose subflooring. While many squeaks are harmless, persistent or worsening noise could indicate a more severe problem. If you notice other signs of structural damage—such as soft or sagging floors, cracks running from the wall to the ceiling, or horizontal cracks in your foundation—it's best to have a professional inspect your floor to determine the root cause.

Building codes for spiral staircases will vary by your location. Most local codes will specify minimum tread width, riser height, handrail requirements, and headroom. These standards help ensure safety and accessibility for all users. Always check local codes before you begin the installation to ensure compliance and avoid costly modifications or fines.

Yes, an LVL beam is more affordable than the cost of a steel I-beam, totaling between $50 and $200 per linear foot as opposed to the $100 to $400 per linear foot you’d pay for a steel I-beam. Not only is the wood material more affordable than steel, but it’s also more similar to traditional wooden beams and doesn’t require as much retrofitting to connect joists.
