Customers say: True professional

"I found Mr. Phelps very easy to communicate with and explain the work to be performed. His pricing was fair and the work done was very well done. Additionally, my wife who was present when the work was performed since I was out of town was very comfortable with Mr. Phelps and his helper. Both were very professional and did a thorough clean up upon completion. The best thing I can say is my wife is very happy with the completed work. I will definitely call on him again."

Small jobs welcome

"RLC is a top-notch company!! During our kitchen remodel we were kept informed of everystage of that remodel. We had weekly emails and/or conversations, kept us abreast of any delays, they set up our appointments for the cabinets, granite top, etc. Highly professional, highly knowledgeable, and wonderfully easy to work with. You can't go wrong with RLC Contractors. I would hire them again!"

"I hired Ultimate Craftsman to tear down an old deck and build a new larger screened in porch with sky lights in it's place. The designer Dave really listened to what I wanted and got on paper my exact vision. The owner Mark always answered his phone and was quick to address any concerns. He used quality materials and professional craftsman. His carpenter John and his roofer Rodney showed great pride in their work. The end result was exactly what I asked them to build and we have received many compliments from our neighbors."

"We had Peninsula Development Corp. install a 20-foot beam in our home, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, the team was professional, efficient, and clearly very knowledgeable about the work being done. The project was completed in just a day and a half, which exceeded our expectations for a job of this size. Frank was great to work with and took the time to walk us through options to make sure we stayed within our budget without sacrificing quality or safety. The crew worked efficiently, kept the job site organized, and delivered excellent results. We would absolutely recommend Peninsula Development Corp. to anyone looking for a reliable, skilled contractor for structural work."

Customers say: Quick response

"Unlike other contractors I've used and I've used many, this team came promptly on time every day, worked diligently every day, stayed until close of business every day, and cleaned up, swept and did quality work, EVERY day. They will always be my first choice for future home projects of any kind. Mr. Stroop heard my ideas and his design experience brought them to reality-turned out beautifully. Enjoy the new room daily!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

Costs depend on desk size, labor, included features like drawers or motorized height adjustments, and required wall anchoring.

If you remove a load-bearing wall to create an entrance to a carport or covered patio, you can expect to pay between $3,200 and $9,500, with an average cost of $6,400. Factors such as the type of addition and if that area needs additional work will add to the price.

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.
