"Very pleased with the work that was done. The crew was very professional, considerate and cleaned up afterwards. The trees were between the houses and Butch was very careful as to where the branches and trunks would land after cutting. The job was done in one day."

"I got a call from Escape tree service with in hours of being contacted by home advisor of options. We set an appointment to meet at 6pm. Bart was on time. We walked the yard to show him what I needed. He counted stumps (12) and calculated cost. He gave me a cost the that made me smile and then said he could do it right then-bigger smile. Within two hours it was all done- initial review of job to paid and final goodbye. So nice to work with a pleasant person. He didn t seem bothered that my gate was too narrow and he had to go buy a tool to remove wheels on his equipment."

"East Coast Trimmers LLC is a very professional company. They do large jobs such as removal of tall pine trees and clearing of large square footage. I was very hesitant to call them. I felt my project wasn't going to be of interest. I called anyway. They did the job in a timely manner. I am very happy that they took on the job. If you are in need of a tree service company call East Coast Trimmers. Excellent customer service."

"Total Ground Solutions was recommended to me a family friend. Christian & his guys were so easy to work with & didnâ t mind me asking for other trees to be taken down in the process of him working at my home. They took out a ton of trees in my back yard, finished the job earlier than expected as well! By far the most honest & hardworking company I have ever hired!"

"I did not request an estimate from Josue Tree Services (JTS) because they are in Newport News & I thought I'd get a quicker response from providers on the Tidewater side. Angi notified me that JTS was interested in the job, so I reached out. I am so glad I did. He was very accommodating, & was willing to come provide an estimate after I got off work at 5:00pm. The fact that he was willing to deal with tunnel traffic impressed me. He was very personable, and willing to do the job for a reasonable amount. Initially I just wanted a tall gumball tree cut from the front yard, & a large mulberry tree out of the backyard that could only be accessed by a small gate. I ended up asking him to clear an area at the back of my property that was overgrown & needed several small trees removed. He was more than willing. He was able to schedule me for the same week. He and his team were punctual, and respectful of my property. They started at 7am & were done by noon. Very happy with the job they did."

"They did everything agreed upon in the contract and extremely hard workers. They didn’t stop working except a 30 min lunch and cleaned around the entire project and hauled away all debris. I was very satisfied snd hired them immediately for another project."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.

If you’re wondering why tree trunks are painted white in your area, it’s usually to prevent sunscald, a condition where extreme shifts in temperature can cause tree bark to split. Fruit trees are especially vulnerable to sunscald, so this treatment is worth considering if it’s something that affects your trees.

Sometimes, knowing when you need tree-trimming services is straightforward, and other times, you have to do some investigating. Some tell-tale signs that you should have your tree trimmed include:

  • A poorly-formed tree with unruly branches, which makes the tree appear odd-shaped.

  • A tree with tall or large branches that interfere with power lines or your home’s exterior.

  • A tree that provides too much shade in the yard due to branch overgrowth.

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

If the roots are still alive, the dead tree will usually try to put out new shoots. That doesn’t mean the tree will survive or that the dead parts of a tree will come back to life. If parts of the tree have died and turned gray or rotten, nothing will bring them back to life and they need to be safely removed.
