"We had Dan and team paint the inside of a rental home just last month. We had begun the painting, but health and time issues prevented our finishing the job. Dan and team came in and smoothly picked up where we left off touching up as needed. Their work gave the home a crisp and clean new look, and they paid attention to every detail. Once again, Dan was interested in what we wanted, gave advice when we asked for it, patched some pretty deep holes in the walls caused by wallboard being damaged by removal of some cabinets. The result is a crisp, clean new look to the home with smooth walls, excellent cutting in/lines between ceiling and wall colors. Without hesitation, we recommend Expertise Painting."

Troy Best of Best Home Improvement is a very experienced skilled carpenter, with excellent woodworking skills.  He also is skilled at plumbing and electrical work.

The bathroom remodel was very extensive, and all the work, including the tiling, was done with great attention to detail.  The bathroom is now a show place!

The built in bookcase is very sturdy & attractive, and the closets are now "organized" closets.

The doors & window were installed carefully, and open & close easily.  The trim work displayed an excellent attention to detail.

"Everything looks absolutely gorgeous! Finishing work had great attention to detail. Plumbing was corrected to make our chosen bathroom fixtures work for the space. Drywall, paint, ceilings, floors, new french door to outside, new siding and paint outside, new covered porch, all done with professional timing and attitude. They worked with us and gave helpful suggestions and even fit in extra projects along the way. Would definitely hire them again!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Plaster can be a difficult DIY to master, especially if you plan to plaster an entire room, rather than patch a small area. Before you begin a plaster DIY project, you need to know which tools and type of plaster to use. It's also important to know how to prepare the surface and apply the plaster for a smooth finish. If that all sounds like a lot of work, you may prefer hiring a local plaster repair contractor to do the job.

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.

Choose a drill bit that is the size of the screws of the anchors you will use. You aren’t drilling through metal or concrete—hopefully—so any standard twist, wooden or all-purpose drill bit will work fine. It’s also important to have a screwdriver capable of drilling through the drywall and into the stud. The good news is most available drills, even the older ones, can do this with no issue.

While certain types of textured walls can seem dated (looking at you, popcorn), textured walls are a common sight in both older and more modern homes. The main reason textured walls may be here to stay is that they are an excellent way to hide minor imperfections on a wall and give it a finished appearance. Some homeowners think a coat of paint on drywall is a bit industrial-looking. However, that look works perfectly in modern home design

You should leave a gap between drywall sheets because they naturally expand and contract along with the building framing as temperature and humidity change. Most pro drywall installers leave a gap of about ⅛ inch between drywall sheets, allowing the sheets to expand, contract, and shift without cracking or becoming damaged. If you don’t leave enough gaps between slabs, the edges will press against each other when they expand, and the pressure can cause visible cracks.
