"Michael was great! He responded promptly to an urgent request for information while the report was being drafted, and then turned the report around quicker than I was expecting. Would recommend NextDay Inspect to anyone looking for a home inspection."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Kamran to assess the requirements to fix a poorly built column structure in my livingroom.  I was told previously the structure was load bearing and with it showing signs of failure I was concerned my ceiling would come down.  Kamran inspected the roof structure in the attic and the column structure in the living room and found that it was not load bearing - just poorly built.  His assessment has saved me a lot of time and money.  I would definitely use his services again should the need arise in the future.

"I had Troy Vogt at Royal T Home Inspection do a home maintenance check-up — kind of like a multipoint inspection for your car — and he did a great job. He gave me peace of mind and a clear idea of what to do next. His report was thorough, easy to read, and simple to share with my contractor. He pointed out important safety issues but also reassured me that things like cracked brick veneer and uneven floors weren’t too serious. He was available for follow-up questions and very responsive, which made the whole process easier. I would recommend him to any homeowner."

"Ok. They came on schedule but we had to call them back because it took awhile to get the estimate. We ended up selling house as is so we didn't use this company or any other. This review is only for the inspection not remediation."

Home Inspection FAQs, answered by experts

Generally, you can tell if a home is bolted to the foundation by checking the foundation for plates. If you see that your foundational plates connect to wood or bolts protruding from them, this means that you have a bolted foundation. However, it's always wise to bring a home inspector in to confirm if your foundation is secure.

You might consider demolishing a house if it has a faulty foundation, widespread mold or pest damage, or other significant issues. Older homes with outdated wiring systems or dangerous materials could also be good candidates for demolition. Or, if you’re planning to remodel the entire home, you might find that it’s more cost-effective to tear it all down and start from scratch.

Homeowners insurance may cover chimney leaks, repairs, or replacement, but coverage depends on the cause of the damage. If the chimney is damaged by a sudden, covered peril like a lightning strike, storm, hail, fallen tree, or an unexpected fire, your policy is likely to cover the costs. However, insurance generally does not cover damage resulting from normal wear and tear, old age, or a lack of proper maintenance, such as failing to perform regular cleanings and inspections. If a fire or other damage is caused by a known issue you didn't address, the claim may be denied. Additionally, some policies may have specific exclusions for events like high winds or earthquakes.

Depending on location, sellers are often legally required to disclose a home’s defects to buyers, even if the home is being sold as-is. Certain types of defects, such as asbestos, mold, previous water damage, structural issues, and other safety risks, may be required to be disclosed, so check local laws to see what needs to be disclosed and what doesn’t.

Depending on your state, a home inspector may need a license. All states and the District of Columbia require home inspectors to undergo training. However, some states (such as New York, Texas, Washington, and Illinois) require state-issued licenses while others (including California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Virginia) do not.

Other professional certifications include the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) certification, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) certification, and the National Home Inspector Examination. Inspectors can also receive certifications in specialized areas. These can include structural specialties, like chimneys, swimming pools, or septic systems, as well as specific issues like mold, pests, or radon gas. Whatever your situation, make sure your home inspector is certified to handle it.
