"Michael Butterbaugh with Home Remedies has done many services at my residence... Drywall and painting, located and repaired a small roof leak, provided window glass pane replacement, gas stove and microwave installation, door and cabinet hardware repairs / replacement, minor electrical work (fixture replacements), and minor plumbing work. His company is licensed and bonded, and he is very talented and multi-skilled. Everything he has done for me has been done accurately and to perfection. Mike is very up front about what he can and cannot do, which is another way he demonstrates honesty and professionalism. He has provided me with reasonable pricing on all past work. If a job extends past what he estimated, he will continue to work, finishes what started, and with excellent communication skills, can be flexible and will negotiate the final price. He has also proven to be very reliable, arriving on time when scheduled, works cleanly, providing end of day cleaning as well as final clean-up of the job. I will continue to use Home Remedies Handyman Service for all my needs. I also have recommended Mike to friends and neighbors and will continue to do that as well!"

"Juan called me promptly after inquiring about the cost of a window project on line. He provided me with a detailed date and time for the project, and called to notify me after arriving it would be completed by the next day. I appreciate his efforts to keep me updated throughout the project and sent pictures to show the work was completed. The cost was very reasonable."

"I was not particularly pleased with being cornered to make a decision about the project the same day I received a quote, particularly since window treatments were going to be for the whole house. It is a business tactic; I get it. Regardless, we ended up with this company after making an informed decision. How the company responds to our questions and any potential repairs down the road (if there are any) is still something to be determined. So far, we have been generally pleased with the shades."

"We’re so happy with the work by RP Renovations doing extensive repairs to our porch. The result is beautiful and sturdy. They provided a detailed estimate, explained what was needed, and went the extra mile to make sure it was safe and the finished work looked perfect. They communicated clearly every day and checked along the way to make sure we were good with colors. Excellent work."

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

Soundproof windows can be energy efficient, depending on the window type and manufacturer. Overall, triple-pane windows are more energy efficient than double-pane windows. However, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, a window’s energy-efficiency level is determined by multiple factors, including the frame material, if there’s any low-emissivity (low-E) glass, and the addition of spacers.

Impact windows are absolutely worth the money if you live in an area prone to hurricanes. Though expensive, impact windows are built to withstand hurricane winds up to 200 mph and theoretically won’t break even if flying debris, such as mailboxes and lawn chairs, is smacked against the glass. A single broken window during a hurricane can destabilize the pressure inside your home, which can cause walls and the roof to collapse.

The average cost to repair a window is about $400, with prices typically ranging from $175 to $1,500. The final cost is influenced by several factors, including:

  • Number of Panes: Single-pane repairs average around $200, double-pane repairs range from $200 to $400, and triple-pane repairs can cost $600 to $1,100.

  • Type of Repair: Minor fixes for a track, seal, or sash are more affordable than repairs for broken glass or window frames, which are typically the most expensive.

  • Window Details: The size, type, and material of the window affect the price.

  • Accessibility: Windows on upper floors or in hard-to-reach locations may increase labor costs.

  • Other Factors: The extent of the damage, local labor rates, and the need for emergency service will also impact the total cost.

For comparison, a full window replacement can range from $175 to $1,800 or more for high-end materials or large windows like bay or bow windows.

Window washing usually refers to cleaning dirt and other debris off of the exterior of your windows, while window cleaning is a much more involved process that addresses the outside and inside of the glass, as well as the interior components. Window washing is more to improve the aesthetic of your windows, while window cleaning can improve performance, reduce the risk of damage over time, and even improve your home’s energy efficiency.

Casement windows can either be left or right opening, and every window manufacturer makes both so that you can choose which works best for your space. In many cases, you’ll want one left-opening and one right-opening casement window to sit on either side of a picture window or to act as the side panels in a bay window. Just remember that the direction is described from the curb. An FCL (from the curb left) hinges out to the left if you’re looking at the exterior of your home, and an FCR (from the curb right) hinges out to the right.
