"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"All the work was completed exactly as I’d hoped and I’m happy with the outcome. It was pretty quick turnaround from when I first reached out to the work being complete, which was good because the electrical work was a prerequisite for another project. I had two light fixtures needing repair and a new outlet to be installed. I was able to watch the work and it was interesting to learn the steps involved. Electrical work is definitely an area where I wanted a professional involved! Would call this company again for any future electrical work needs."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

When converting a standard 120-volt outlet to a 240-volt outlet, the only components you can typically reuse are the existing electrical box and the hole in the wall. Everything else—including the wiring, breaker, and receptacle—should be replaced to ensure both safety and efficiency. Appliances designed for 240 volts have different plug configurations that won’t fit into a standard 120-volt outlet, making it necessary to install a compatible 240-volt receptacle. This design helps prevent overloading or underloading the power available to any one outlet or circuit.

Let them know exactly what type of job you need them to do, and be as specific as possible to get the most accurate estimate. A photo of your project might help them better understand your needs. Ask what kind of prep you should complete before they visit and what kind of cleanup to expect after the visit. Finally, ask how long the project usually takes.

A duplex outlet simply means that the receptacle has two plug-in outlets for two plugs. It’s a common design choice for homes. The two outlets should be wired identically during installation so the hot side is the same for both.

A sudden tiny spark is normal when first plugging in an appliance. However, if your plug regularly sparks, has other concerning problems, or worries you for any reason, you should call a licensed electrician to have it inspected and ensure that it is not at risk of causing an electrical fire.

Each meter should have a serial number printed or engraved on the face of the meter. Make sure the serial number of the meter you are reading matches your account with the power company. If you live in an apartment complex, the meters are likely located all together. Yours should be labeled according to your apartment unit.
