"We're very happy with the work done by The Contractors Inc. Our kitchen cabinet doors had been painted as part of a previous remodeling, but the cabinet door paint cracked due to the uneven expansion/contraction of the wood pieces. We had 3 companies give us estimates for replacing the doors and the fair (though not cheap) price and attitude of the folks from The Contractors made it an easy choice. It took about 10 weeks for the cabinet doors to arrive after they took the measurements and placed our order. This was slightly longer than the estimated 8 weeks but it was also during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Jeremiah and Amy did the installation. They did an outstanding job on the installation. They installed the 18 doors in about 4 hours. There was one door that wouldn't properly close, but Jeremiah must have made about a dozen adjustments to finally get it right. The new doors look great and the paint match to the cabinets was perfect. I highly recommend The Contractors Inc!!!"

"We thought hard about replacing or refacing our 36-year old cabinets for our large-sized kitchen with a cooking island and desk. We decided that it would be better to utilize our existing strong hardwood cabinet boxes and have them refaced. If I could give more stars for Kitchen Saver, I would! Our carptenter/installer Reid was fabulous! His attention to detail superb, workmanship top-notch, cleanliness excellent, plus he was pleasant and punctual. So nice to see a young person taking such pride in their work. And, we are thrilled with the look of our new kitchen!!!"

"We recently had the pleasure of working with Mayflower Construction Group on a comprehensive renovation project, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Our project involved a complete transformation of the owner's suite, turning two small bedrooms and a small bath into one large bedroom with a bath, shower, and walk-in closet. Additionally, we refreshed the entire kitchen, installed new hardwood floors throughout the main level, and updated the laundry room. We highly recommend Mayflower Construction Group for their dedication, craftsmanship, and exceptional service. They turned our vision into reality and made the renovation process as smooth as possible."

Small jobs welcome

"After several moves with the military to our forever home, we wanted to have our furniture cosmetically touched up, as it had incurred some nicks and scratches, with a few faded areas from heavy use. The kitchen in our new house also had been refinished several years ago, but the previous owners had been rough with the cabinets, leaving some scrapes and scratches. Eric did a fantastic job touching up all our furniture, which looks so much better now that all the scratches are filled and the faded areas blended. The cabinets in our gourmet kitchen look brand new. The cost was very reasonable, all the work was conveniently done in our home, and Eric was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. Getting an estimate via email with photos and scheduling was easy as well--it's just a great all-around local company worth supporting. Other companies wanted us to bring the furniture to them and had very high quotes just for a few pieces. I'm so happy I found them and my home feels so much more polished now."

"Angel communicated from estimate, to measuring date options, and possible install dates very clearly and promptly. He installed base molding, 3/4 round, and cased and trimmed door openings throughout our first floor. He was efficient but precise with his cuts and caulking. I expected great work but it was even better than I expected. I would recommend Angel and will use his services again as needed due to his craftsmanship and pricing."

Customers say: Quick response

"Dan and Zach did an outstanding job painting five rooms in my house, three of which have vaulted ceilings. From the first meeting, I could tell Dan was trustworthy and cared about meeting my expectations. Dan redid a lot of caulking which truly made a great painting project look even better. I highly recommend this painting company and will hire them again! Already discussing the next project!"

"Mariano was excellent to work with! We will definitely be hiring him for future projects. He is very polite, professional, hardworking, honest, and easy to communicate with. I appreciate Marianos transparency through the whole process. He was able to turn our laundry room from a cramped tiny room into a much larger functional space and we love it. He was able to accommodate for our timeline and completed the work in a timely manner. The quality of his work is excellent and we are very happy with the results. He even recommended some changes to our original project which turn out great!"

Closets questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on material, customization level, and additional features like lighting or sliding doors.

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

You can turn an adjacent room into a walking closet by just rearranging the room. This means removing the furniture and adding racks and an island in the center if you have that in your budget. Houses with two bedrooms connected to each other are great options for large walk-in closets that don't require any structural changes or much building whatsoever.
