"These guys are like the A team. They come in, make a professional assessment of the situation, then next thing you know the framers, installers etc come in, knock out there jobs and before you know it the job is complete and it looks great. We were very please with the work and the workers who were all courteous. We were especially impressed with the owner Dan Betts. He was the first person we met. He came to our home and give use what I call a personal guarantee. It really was a great experience from the beginning to the end. We highly recommend HIVEX!"

"Since day one, Deybi and his crew have been able to solve any electrical problems I've had and provide efficient and effective solutions at a proactive level, long term result. First time working with them was due to our previous preferred electrical contractor failing to help with complex electrical problems at a commercial space (office space), so after some looking we found DBG Electric. They were able to help with setting up light switch wiring, installing cubicle receptacles and replacing fluorescent light ballast along with breakers. At another commercial site, we needed help with installation of power packs, emergency lights and flood lights. All of these were installed in a high ceiling area, which was no problem for DBG. They've also helped with lighting a my personal residence, ranging from kitchen light replaced with LEDs to recess lighting needed in the basement. I highly recommend using them, specially with difficult projects that require some ingenuity."

"Javier and his team were fantastic! We had our master bath and another full bath completely gutted and remodeled, and not only did Javier come up with the most innovative designs, but this company also came in at the lowest price! We had a different team for each bathroom, both were very polite, communicative, and very knowledgeable in not only remodeling, but electric and other work. They cleaned up every day and we were never left with any messes in our yard or in the house. Javier was also very communicative and would let us know how each stage of the project was going and, one of his best qualities, was extremely easy to work with. Both bathrooms are gorgeous and for the price exceeded my expectations! All of the beautiful hand-cut porcelain tile and cabinetry and fixtures were well within our price range, which was low to mid-range. I definitely would recommend this company to anyone!"

"If you're looking for the cheapest option, Lux isn't for you. You're paying for quality, workmanship, speed, and professionalism. I hired Lux to renovate an unfinished basement space (one main room, one large storage / utilities area, and a laundry space. They gave me a time estimate to start, and actually were able to come in early. The folks who did the job were polite, amazing at their work, and I think my dogs fell in love with them. They were finished MUCH faster than I expected. They handled all the inspections, electrical, carpeting...it was so easy for me. I can't recommend Lux (and Tim!) enough."

"Had a great experience doing a bunch of jobs around the house that we had put off for too long. Thomas and another gentleman whose name i forget came for a couple days and they did a wide range of things we had asked them to do- fixing two doors that haddnt worked, replacing and painting boards on our porch, fixing a handrail, etc etc. While they were here they noticed a section of shingles were coming down and they were able to fix that quickly. They did it all very professionally, swiftly, and good quality and humor. It feels like a new house - i wish we had them come sooner! We're definitely going to have them do more work in the future."

"I found Sterling Appliance while researching microwaves and range hoods. After lots of comparison shopping, Sterling Appliance was cheapest hands down. For appliances, I was nervous about purchasing directly online, so I decided to go into the Sterling location. It is a relatively small store, but I already knew (or so I thought), exactly what I wanted. Two gentlemen were there when I went in on a Saturday morning. I told one of them what I was interested in purchasing. For the inline blower, he explained the pluses and minuses of purchasing a 1100 CFM blower in a very professional and easy to understand manner. After discussing the issues, I decided to purchase a 800 CFM blower - still larger than what he was recommending, but smaller than what I had intended to purchase. Both of them were super nice and clearly knowledgeable about appliances. If you are looking for appliances that they sell, I would highly recommend at least checking them out, especially considering their prices were cheaper than the big online appliance websites.

"Two by Four's crew was so professional (and job was well priced) that we will use them again. They didn't harm any of the fences (we have a large property with multiple fences) below the trees that were being trimmed and this has never happened with other companies."

"Joe Zouine, was our designer and worked closely with us to be sure that we were making the most of the space we had in our kitchen. He asked great questions and we were able to get the project off the ground in a matter of weeks, from the time of the design and contract to actual start of the project. The project began on schedule and the demo of the old kitchen was complete in about 3 hours! The completion of the new kitchen took a good bit longer than anticipated due to some miscommunication with regard to where the permits were to be obtained, but the finished product is amazing. For the most part, we couldn’t have asked for better communication from VKB. At the end of every work day, the Project Manager called me to ask if we had any concerns, if the workers arrived on time and asked approximately when they wrapped up for the day. At the end of those daily conversations, we were asked if the workers were polite, took precautions so as not to cause any more disruption to my daily routine as necessary, and that they cleaned up behind themselves at the end of the day. We were always happy to report that they indeed did as they were instructed and I was also told at what time to expect the workers the next day. The Project: • Demolished the old kitchen and hauled it away • Moved my current refrigerator to my garage and got rid of the old refrigerator that had been in the garage prior to the project. • Moved the range (which was new and was being kept) to the garage with the new appliances • Removed the wall between the dining room and kitchen area and the half wall between the kitchen and breakfast room. • The wall between the dining room and kitchen was found to be load bearing and required the installation of a support header. One was installed according to PG County specs. The City of Laurel specs, however, were a bit more stringent and required a much larger and differently placed header. The header was ordered and was installed properly and to code. • Removed drywall from the exterior facing wall in the kitchen, and installed much better insulation, vapor barrier, and used heavier drywall materials in order to make sure that the kitchen was sufficiently insulated. The insulation that was there was not nearly sufficient. • They reworked the vaulted ceiling in the dining room so that the ceiling fixture could be located to the center of the ceiling instead to one side as the builders had placed it. It had always bothered me and figured while we were making a huge mess, we’d take care of that too. Now the ceiling medallion fits perfectly. • They replaced all of the baseboards and painted same. They also painted the walls, window trim, and ceilings. • Removed the old flooring, leveled the floors where they were not level and installed the new flooring. Originally we’d wanted to get large plank tiles for the kitchen (extending into the dining room and breakfast room), but was advised that, since our house is on a crawl space, the tile would be very cold and we’d probably feel it through out shoes. We went with something that had the same appearance, but was much better insulating material. This conversation saved us from an extremely cold floor and saved money. • The recessed lighting, dimmers, lighting fixtures and electrical outlets were installed. Our job required a completely new (much larger) electrical panel. The expense was expected since we were adding a few additional items for future projects and wanted to make sure that the GFI outlets were placed correctly. This was also an added complication because of being located in the City of Laurel. The building codes are different from county to county and even areas within a county. There was a little confusion about this, but they worked through the difficulties and made it right. • The cabinetry was finally installed and it was beautiful. When they unpacked the new refrigerator, we noticed that it sat out much further into the room then we expected. We all scratched our heads for a bit and came up with a fix for the problem. It was an added expense, but it wasn’t the fault of VKB. We measured the width and height of the new larger refrigerator, but never imagined that it would be THAT much deeper than the old refrigerator. Boy, were we wrong! We had the cabinets on the refrigerator side of the kitchen, uninstalled and pulled forward, flush with the wall, so that the refrigerator fit much better. They even moved the water line for the ice maker way over in the corner of the refrigerator space so that the refrigerator could go back a couple of inches. • They installed the new microwave and placed the existing range back in place, a more powerful disposal, and an Instant Hot. • The granite was installed over the kitchen counters and coffee bar as was the glass tile back splash. A couple of items need adjustments and those items were taken care of as requested. • The vertical dividers for my baking sheets, which went in the cabinet over my refrigerator, took many weeks to come in, but they were definitely worth the wait. • We have changed out the plain glass panels from the kitchen cabinets for ones with a “rain” texture. The plain glass constantly needed to have finger prints removed. The textured glass will also require cleaning of course, but the day-to-day smudges are not nearly so apparent. We love our new kitchen and are looking forward to working with VKB on as many as three additional projects, master bath, guest bath and powder room. VKB may not be the least expensive renovation specialist, but we can say that we got out money’s worth, otherwise, why would we consider hiring them for additional projects in our home. We’ve included a number of pictures of the kitchen before and after the renovation. As you can see from the before and after pictures, it was quite an amazing transformation."

Range Hoods questions, answered by experts

If a range hood has minor issues, the average repair costs $85 to $210. This accounts for both parts and labor. More extensive damage can cost as much as $300 to $500, at which point it may be worth considering completely replacing the range hood.

A range hood is an exhaust fan for your kitchen, and several types and styles exist. They are meant to remove grease, moisture, and fumes from your stove. Although some models filter and recirculate the air, the most effective ones remove the air through a duct that’s vented to the outdoors.

Smooth galvanized metal ducting is best and safest for venting a hood range. It’s best to avoid flexible and corrugated types of ducting, as these options don’t provide ample airflow and may not meet local code. For specific advice on which type of duct might be best for your kitchen, reach out to a range hood installation professional.

Neglected maintenance can lead to odors, fire hazards, impaired airflow, and reduced range and hood operation efficiency.

Yes, with features like LED lighting and variable speed controls for efficiency.
