Small jobs welcome

"Tac's Handy Services did a phenomenal job with multiple projects in our house, including crown molding, a shower door, and drywall. Their professionalism was by far superior to others in the area. I would highly recommend them! We will be using them again for future projects!"

"Fantastic Craftwork!!! They converted my cheery wood shaker style TV armoire into storage/linen cabinet. I highly recommend them and it was at an affordable price. Plus they picked up and delivered. I am so pleased that I didn't have to get rid of the cabinet and can use it for another use. You don't get this kind of quality craftsmanship now days. A good tradesman is worth their weight in gold. Highly recommend."

"I was interested in getting new kitchen cabinets, but I did not want to make any changes in the current layout.  I found out that refacing was the best option for what I wanted based on need and cost.  They were very efficient and professional.  I was very pleased with my new cabinets.  The only downside to the new cabinets are the brackets that hold the drawers are not equip to hold much weight.  So, the company has to come out to reinforce the drawers after installation."

"Great! He arrived on time, with the right amount of crew, tools and positive attitude! He was very experienced with Ikea cabinets and knew when we had purchased the wrong items. He also knew when to send me back to Ikea for different parts. Ikea made alot of mistakes and he knew that was common. He wrote down the numbers of the items i needed which was extremely helpful. He and his crew were fantastic and i would hire him again in the future. His prices were very reasonable and i appreciated that. I had two glass doors that were on back order so he said i could hold back $200 from his pay until they czme in. I called him on Sunday and told him i just picked them up. He told me they would be there on Monday morning to finish the job. Of course he arrived on time and he finished the job quickly. Of the 4 companies i hired to do various things in my kitchen his was the only one i didnt have issues with. I asked him to install the lights inside and underneath the cabinets and install the microwave. The lights were difficult but he worked hard until they were done. They make the whole kitchen shine! He was extremely reasonable with the microwave installation price. I asked him for several cards and already passed them out to people that wanted a new kitchen i told them he is the best installer i ever hired. He made this overwhelming project so much easier."

"Working with Creative Surfaces was a great experience, from start to finish! I wasn't sure which material to use for a new kitchen counter, so they helped me to decide on Staron, based on my work needs, and offered suggestions on color, sinks tyles and counter design. When they arrived at our house to take measurements and assess the work, Mark arrived promptly, and spent a lot of time inspecting the kitchen. We explained some of our concerns, which were the results of a REALLY BAD experience with a kitchen contractor who did an earlier remodel. That previous contractor made a lot of errors, took bad shortcuts, and left inferior work that would make the new counter installation a bit more challenging: the old (laminate) counters were not level, cabinets were not flush-mounted with the walls, and walls were not level. The counter installation required a lot more work than the average job. To correctly install the counter, Mark needed to make a lot of corrective work, such as re-adjusting cabinets to ensure they were level, making modifications to a section of drywall so the counter would lay flat against the walls, and more work that he didn't anticipate. I had purchased two faucets, and wasn't sure which we preferred. Mark helped us choose between the two, and installed the faucet for us. When I mentioned that we were in the process of waiting for an IKEA-approved contractor to call us back (after three messages left with contractor) regarding our IKEA cabinetry needs, he suggested that he do it for us. We had been able to install doors ourselves, but we wanted a professional to help with the face-outs and toe-kicks. Mark took off the old face-outs and toe-kicks, took measurements, and brought the (new) replacements to his shop to measure and cut. Within a few days, he returned for the installation. He offered the above-and-beyond cabinetry work at no charge, in lieu of a recommendation, but I insisted on providing both--it really was a lot more work than he bargained for!!! We had such bad experiences with our previous work in the kitchen that I wasn't sure what to expect with this go-around. It was everything we could have wanted and wished for, and more. Based on our complete satisfaction with the kitchen counter installation, we've asked him to help us with counters for our two baths, and without hesitation recommend Creative Surfaces to others who are looking for new counters."

"We used Mega Kitchen and Baths for a gut renovation and remodeling of a home that we recently purchased. Mega did great work from design through construction, installation, and finishing touches. Ibrahim promptly met all of our requests, and their workmanship was excellent. Katherine Bradshaw was an invaluable resource. She helped us select all of the hardware, colors, cabinets, tiles, etc. We decided to go with Mega in large part because of a walk-through of the house with Kat and her drawings for the kitchen. In the end, we were very glad that we chose Mega. Kat was a knowledgeable designer who listened to us and provided great input throughout the process. Both Kat and Ibrahim were always accessible and returned all communications promptly. It was a big job but Ibrahim and his team finished on time (on a tight schedule) and were thorough about taking care of everything on our punch list. We interviewed a number of contractors and Mega provided experience, value, and customer service. In short, we highly recommend the company and will use them again for any future projects."

"It went very well. Two things that stand out for us: these are totally reliable and honest workers that came in to our home and they were responsive when there were questions during the process. The process was simple, we contacted them and they came out and evaluated the space and we told them what we wanted done. Measurements were done. They emailed an estimate and we reviewed this, clarified anything confusing and signed the contract and provided the deposit. The order was placed for the cabinets, hardware, and other supplies that were needed for the job. They started promptly and on time in the morning, taped thick cardboard to cover where necessary, and put plastic to confine the area. Demolition was done rapidly and carefully. For the kitchen this involved removing a wall, several layers of old flooring, old cabinets, counters, and appliances except the dishwasher, fridge, and stove. They placed those three in a another room and the located the fridge so that we could use it during the project. In the basement, they helped us move large furniture and carefully put plastic with zippers to cordon off the space that was to be renovated from the non-renovated area. The basement was stripped down to the studs and all corroded plumbing was replaced and new plumbing was introduced in another section of the basement for the large laundry room. The project manager was very accessible and professional anytime we had questions. They cleaned up the space (broom swept the debris away every day and placed all demoed items on a large plastic sheet that was collected or placed everything in a large dumpster they supplied. They also supplied an outside john for the workers to use when they were working on the basement. *They made every effort to provide everything we asked for and for all three projects they transformed the dark/outdated spaces and created BEAUTIFUL and professionally-executed functional spaces. Family and friends who knew our home before, were stunned and impressed at how different and wonderful everything looks now. I asked them to create an extremely large kitchen pantry and they designed it and built it intelligently and it is a complete home run- including niche in it for my vacuum cleaner/brooms/etc. The upstairs bathroom was completed in a timely manner and they They used smart design and expertise in solving issues that came up. They worked with us on prices to help us keep expenses reasonable for our budget. The responsiveness, professional and respectful behavior of project manager left us with a good feeling and we will use them again. I just cannot tell you what a relief it was to have workers in our home that we trusted and workmanship that speaks for itself in beauty and function."

"I bought cabinets from diy cabinets. Extremely high quality cabinets. I installed them. I needed to exchange a couple of cabinets...no problem. exchange was done and in a couple of days I had the new cabinets. Everything very satisfactory. Granite countertops installed within 3 days of measure. Also an excellent job. I would recommend diy cabinets without reservation!"

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

DIY is possible, but professional assembly ensures proper alignment, stability, and cable management.

Make sure your shelves are no more than 12 inches deep. Any deeper and it will become hard to access items towards the back of the shelf. Yet, for larger walk-in pantries, homeowners may prefer 15- to 18-inch shelving to make room for larger appliances and cookware.

Most assemblies take 1-3 hours, but larger units or those requiring wall mounting may take longer.

Yes, most installations include warranties for materials and labor. Confirm details with your contractor.

The cost to install a kitchen island ranges from $900 to $6,500, with an average price of around $4,800. The final cost depends on whether you buy a prefabricated unit or have one custom-built. Prefabricated kitchen islands are generally cheaper. A simple prefabricated cart can cost between $150 and $900, while a permanent, stationary prefabricated island costs from $900 to $5,000. A custom-built kitchen island averages around $4,800 but can cost $10,000 or more depending on factors like materials, size, design complexity, and accessibility.
