"I can't express enough how happy I am that I went with PMK Plumbing! We'd been poorly educated about our previous water heater and of course it stopped working. We tried to remove our old one and couldn't; we spent weeks researching and exploring options. I was pretty nervous about the whole ordeal. Enter Mike & Michael from PMK and within a few hours from the initial phone call, we had a brand new water heater installed. In fact, it took probably 40 minutes or less to complete the job after Michael arrived with the new system. He was very informative and walked me through the future maintenance protocol. He even hauled away the old unit and left the spot cleaner than it was when he started! Mike even called me about 45 minutes later to check on whether we were happy with the service. Heck yes, we're happy and I'll call them again if I need anything plumbing related from now on! I won't wait so long next time! YAY!!!"

"Scott and his team installed a new shower floor and walls in one of my bathrooms. There were some stumbles in the beginning, but Scott's customer service was outstanding. He helped us through every phase of the project, and was available at all hours of the day/night to answer questions. They did a fantastic job and our bathroom looks stunning!"

"Extremely well. Ryan worked with us to hear what we wanted and developed plans which perfectly met our needs. Then he and William, Jerry and Mario installed, tested and finished the project. Everyone we worked with was top notch. We got 4 bids for the project and Ryan's was the lowest. He included first class finishing touches we would not even have thought of. Excellent after project clean up. We would use again without taking multiple bids."

"Tech was able to tell me what the error code meant but did not want me to order part until testing with volt meter. Diag appointment with volt meter did not cost extra. Tech gave me part numbers and it fixed the problem."

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

Even a single, one-time exposure to asbestos can be harmful and pose health risks. According to the EPA, any contact can increase the risk of developing asbestos-related diseases and certain types of cancer, although the likelihood of severe health issues increases with repeated or prolonged exposure.

The severity of a single exposure depends on factors like the duration, intensity, and concentration of the asbestos fibers. While a small amount is less likely to cause significant damage, a high concentration can lead to serious long-term lung damage. Individual reactions vary, and asbestos-related illnesses may not appear for 10 to 40 years after inhalation.

Given these risks, always take precautions around any material suspected to contain asbestos. Personal protective equipment (PPE) may not be completely effective. If you suspect asbestos is in your home, hire a professional for testing and removal. If you are worried about a potential exposure, consult your doctor.

You can tell if old flooring has asbestos if thick black flooring adhesive is underneath the tiles. However, homeowners should not cut into linoleum floors to look for this adhesive. Instead, hiring a specialist to test the floors is the only safe way to determine if old flooring has asbestos.

If you hire a dedicated asbestos inspector near you in addition to your local home inspector, it will cost between $200 and $800. If, however, your general home inspector happens to be certified as an asbestos inspector, they can charge you a smaller fee and tack on the cost to the home inspection. In general, home inspectors do not do physical testing, but will provide a visual assessment so you know what you are working with.

Unlike some home problems, such as water damage or pest infestations, asbestos can be very difficult to spot. Asbestos is a mineral in the form of microscopic fibers and was previously used in building materials for its bonding and fireproofing abilities. Insulation, roof shingles, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, pipe wrappings, soundproofing materials, and textured paint features like popcorn ceilings are common sources of asbestos, particularly in homes built before 1980.

Age is perhaps the biggest indicator of asbestos, as legislation passed in the 1970s labeled asbestos as dangerous and regulated its use in building materials. Signs of age in the form of wear and tear or material degradation are also indicators that asbestos fibers may be leaking into the air, but ultimately, it’s difficult to detect with the naked eye. If you have reason to suspect asbestos in your home, it’s best to hire a certified asbestos inspector.

Whether or not to buy a home containing asbestos is ultimately a decision for the homebuyer, and there are several things to consider. When in good condition and contained, asbestos is unlikely to present a health risk—it’s when those tiny fibers are loose and airborne that they become a problem. Consider any renovations you plan on doing to the home that could disturb existing asbestos and the cost of removal. If an inspection finds asbestos in a home on the market, you could negotiate with the seller for a lower price, though this isn’t a sure thing.
