My wife and I recently relocated to Loudoun County from northeast Ohio and now offer the same level of customer service to our clients in the northern Virginia region. Building on a foundation of more than three decades of experience in the building, remodeling & land surveying professions, it just made sense to put that experience to work by adding home inspections to the services we offer. Our mission is to continue to establish White Stone Home Inspections as the first choice of buyers, sellers and home owners for accurate, prompt and concise home inspections and reports.

"Robert Tedesco arrived on time, excellent communication and completed boundary survey very professionally. Very reasonable pricing. "

We are a husband and wife engineering and land surveying comapny. Both principles are very hands on and perform the majority of the work required to fulfill the obligations to the client. Please be aware we do ask for deposits. The amount varies but usually amounts to 40 to 50 percent of the total job. Being that most jobs are less than $300.00 the deposit covers direct expenses associated with the completion of a portion of the project. Direct expenses are fuel, materials, labor cost, and equipment maintenance. By requiring deposits we can keep our fees low. Although we are located in Fredericksburg, the majority of our work is in Northern Virginia. We do want you to know that our fees are not increased because of distance so you need not fear that you are paying any fuel surcharges. Many contractors will tell you that if a bid for work seems too low that you may want to avoid that business. That is not always true and here is why. We sell a service, not a product. Our service is worth what we agree upon as a fair fee. Quality of service is not sacrificed because a fee is less than another provider. The service is identical to the provider that wants twice as much as we ask for. Land Surveyors are required by State Regulatory mandates to provide specific actions to accomplish specific tasks regardless of fees charged. Additional Service Areas: Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Prince Williams, & Portions of Prince George Counties.

"Responded to request for quote during the weekend, scheduled a Monday afternoon appointment. Didn't require me to be home. A team of two, including Mr. Thurber, showed up on-time and performed the work within an hour, locating all property boundaries and taking all needed measurements. By Wednesday I had the updated PLAT for my county permitting."

32 employees. 7 field crews, 2 Licensed Land Surveyors, 2 Licensed Engineers. 14 graduated apprentice surveyors. Charges a flat rate. No travel charge apply. Quality without question, Service is number one!

"We had contacted several surveyors, and found Dominion to be the most reliable and reasonably priced. It did take a while for the project to be done, but the crew was extremely friendly, and even waited for us to return to the house (10-15 minutes) after they had finished to give us a walk through of the property lines. We received the plat both via email and hard copy. We appreciated the email so we could move more quickly with our fence project. We would definitely recommend them."

NoVA Surveys, Inc. is a fully licensed and Insured Professional Land Surveying Company in Northern Virginia. We give you the best quality surveys by combining the latest technologies with attention to detail and years of surveying experience. __

"NOVA Surveys saved the day! Found out from our contractor six calendar days before renovations were to begin that he needed a plat to obtain the necessary building permits. Unfortunately, the only one that we had was extremely dated, and clearly marked as not to be used to obtain a permit. Mad scramble to find a surveyor who could turn around a survey and plat quickly so as not to delay the renovation and subsequent listing for sale of our property. Tom responded to my email request for a quote within 5 hours of my initial email, and had a surveyor on the property the next day. Two days later, I had a pdf of a new plat in hand to share with our contractor. Really appreciate everything that Tom and his crew did to expedite everything for us and ensure that we could keep our project on schedule!"

Land Surveying questions, answered by experts

A land survey gives you information about the property boundaries, easements on the plot, dimensions, and, in some cases, topographical information. A land appraisal will often take these figures into account, but the purpose of a land appraisal is to determine the value of the land rather than the physical specifications.

If you or your mortgage lender think your land survey needs to be more accurate, double-check the survey report and get at least a second opinion from the original surveyor and an inspector, if possible. Although it’s unlikely, even reputable surveying companies can make mistakes. An inaccurate survey can cause problems down the road in the case of any property line disputes, so it’s best to resolve any inaccuracies as quickly as possible.

A land survey includes the layout of a single property, including precise measurements and to-scale drawings of boundary lines, land improvements, and sometimes other features, like topography and drainage information. A plat map includes the layouts and boundary lines of several adjacent plots and basic structure measurements. Surveys are normally more valuable for homeowners and buyers, and plat maps are for governmental use.

To hire a land surveyor, you need to start by searching online for reputable professionals in your area. Here are a few steps to take when making a shortlist:

  • Browse land surveyor service website

  • Check credentials

  • Read customer reviews

  • Find their contact information

  • Call or email to inquire about more information

  • Ask how far they travel, if you’re some distance away

  • Find out how they charge for their services

  • Ask about schedule and turnaround times

  • Repeat these steps for one to two other services and compare pricing

Soil testers and licensed excavators are often the professionals you hire if you need a perc test. In some cases, structural engineers will also be able to conduct the test for you. In many municipalities, you’ll need your professional on-site to dig and fill the holes with water, as well as a representative from your local building department or health department. That representative is the individual who will determine whether your test passes or fails.
