"Expert Water Systems truly is Utah’s BEST company in water softener in KNOWLEDGE, VALUE, SERVICE, PRODUCTS and WARRANTY! We have previously owned two different Superior water softeners and our most recent system broke and I was shocked at how expensive a new water softener would be. I did extensive research and reading of reviews (hours and hours) on several different kinds of water softeners (sold at Amazon, Sams, Costco, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Superior Water, Kinetico, and Culligan) and watched literally every You Tube video on “best water softeners”. I then got an installation bid from three local plumbers and found it would cost an expensive $800 just to install a softener that I purchased at Amazon, Sams, Home Depot, Lowe’s, or etc. with only a 1 year limited product warranty or one the plumber could pick up similarly in price and warranty at a business where only plumbers can purchase softeners. During one of the plumber’s bid, he discovered my main water pressure valve was broke and which was reading 95-110 PSI which is too high and most likely was the cause that broke our old water softener. The plumber bid $500 to fix my pressure valve. After these bids, I realized I wanted more than a limited one year product warranty on a new water softener and so I decided to get a bid from an company that specializes in water softeners, so I had Superior Water come to my home to give me a bid. Superior Water’s bid was a choice of two water softeners for the outrageous purchase and install price of $2,395 & $3,995 and also a RO water purifier for $1,295. I felt Superiors prices were Outrageously Expensive so I kept searching. FINALLY, I found FANTASTIC REVIEWS on a newer company called EXPERT WATER SYSTEMS, so I called and had the owner, Nick, and he came out to give me a bid and I was very impressed with his knowledge. Nick was a previous employee at Superior Water and has broke away and started up his own company. Nick builds his own systems and does NOT use parts from China. After my discussion with Nick, I was confident I had found who I wanted to do business with. I purchased a water softener for $1,850 INSTALLED WITH A 15 YEAR WARRANTY (similar to Superior’s $2,395 system with a only a limited 3 year labor 10 year parts warranty) and I paid Nick only $185 to fix and replace our main water pressure valve (same service that the plumber bid $500 to fix). My research paid off! I found Expert Water Systems was the MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE, offered the MOST CHOICES (36 different water softener systems), had the BEST KNOWLEDGE, BEST VALUE, BEST PRODUCTS, BEST WARRANTY and BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE! Hopefully the extensive time I spent on researching water softeners, reading reviews and getting bids, will help someone else in their decision. Go with Expert Water Systems, YOU WILL SAVE MONEY and have a BETTER WARRANTY! With the money I ended up saving, I inquired with Nick about RO water purification systems and I ended up buying a purification system too from Nick for $799 installed (similar to Superior’s system for $1,395) and now we have PURE drinking water in a separate smaller designer faucet at our kitchen sink and also in the water line going to our refrigerator (pure cold drinking water and pure ice)! Additionally, upon installing our new Softener and RO purifier, Nick and his son, found two small leaks not related to their install and they fixed them without an additional charge, now that is what I call EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!"

"21 years ago, Superior installed a water softener system that served a family of 8 over that period. The system easily outlived its life expectancy. My own recently failed PRV valve finally exposed the system's end of life weaknesses. One phone call to Superior and the very next day Martin Alvaredo showed up at my door and quickly diagnosed and easily demonstrated to me a substantially degraded system that had lived a full and exciting life. We quickly agreed to a replacement system and price. Two days later the installer showed up at my door. Two hours later I had a new PRV and new soft water system. The professionalism, cleanliness, efficiency, expertise, communication etc. etc. is way beyond mere compliment or praise. Superb may be an understatement as well. In any case, we are more than happy. Hopefully we get 20 years out of the new system. If not I have no doubt that Superior will respond quickly and professionally after the first call for service or repairs. Thanks again Martin. I greatly appreciate your great service. Joe Toronto"

"Terry excelled at the three things we look for when selecting a contractor to repair or replace items in our home: service, price and timeliness. We had an outside faucet freeze on us during winter causing flooding in our basement bedroom this Spring. We called Terry based upon his ratings. He showed up within the hour and quickly diagnosed the issue, informed us of the process and gave us a very fair quote. He was able to locate the split pipe and replace the faucet assembly in about an hour. Afterwards, he made sure the basement area was clean and even educated us on what can cause these issues and how to prevent it in the future. Extremely friendly, Terry even provided us with a military discount! To top it off, The next day We were concerned with what we thought was low water pressure in my second floor shower. Terry came right over and removed debris from the filters and educated us on clearing our water heater to remove excess rust and debris. Terryâ s business may be smaller than the larger companies, but his amazing customer service and very competitive pricing beats them all. Highly recommended!"

"We have been customers of Manwill for over 10 years. The reasons why were highlighted yesterday when our water heater unexpectedly failed. I called their emergency number at about 9:30 AM and was quickly connected with Jeff. He helped me figure out how to protect my home, educated me about the implications of recent legislation regarding water heaters, and scheduled an appointment for replacement for late yesterday evening. A brief while later, one of his teams were redirected to our home because their assigned job went more quickly than expected. The men had a new, environmentally safer water heater installed before 4:00 PM and for less than I had expected to pay. It is nice to have a company filled with people who know what they're doing, and behave in a professional, responsible manner, on your side, especially in an urgent situation."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

It’s unlikely that hard water on its own could cause substantial hair loss or damage, though it’s true that bathing in hard water can cause your scalp to feel itchy or flaky and might dull your hair’s natural shine. Using high-quality shampoo and conditioner or buying a whole-home water softener can decrease these issues.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.

To get utilities set up on a property, you first have to contact the local department of planning to determine whether your property is able to connect to public utilities. From there, you can work with a structural engineer and/or a building contractor to design the layout of utility lines on the property. The pros will need this information as they begin securing building permits before they can start adding lines.

If your property isn’t able to connect to public utilities, you’ll need to consider working with pros to develop a comfortable off-grid home that will meet your needs.

The chemicals in a water softener can wear down the anode rod in the heater and shorten its life span. However, for most people, the benefits of the softener outweigh this potential drawback.

Have a plumber inspect the anode rod annually for damage, as replacing the anode rod is far less expensive than replacing the entire water heater.

If your water softener repair is fairly straightforward, like a simple filter replacement, then you can probably do it yourself with little risk. However, anything beyond a simple fix should be addressed by someone with extensive plumbing expertise to avoid costly water softener problems, like leaks.

That said, even simple problems can be complicated to diagnose, particularly if your water softener is attached to a whole-house treatment system. So, unless you feel absolutely certain that the problem is an easy fix that you can take on yourself, it's probably best to hire a plumber to diagnose and fix the problem.
