"James came for the appointment on time! He was extremely courteous and very professional. He and Johnny drained, hauled off old heater, and installed new heater in about three hours. Afterwards they cleaned up and left the area super clean. I am so grateful for seeing the deal on Angie's List and finding Click's for my future plumbing work. The deal was for $749 for new heater, haul off, and replace with new heater. I paid $150 more for heater upgrade and second floor attic installation. What a great deal! I am so pleased with the work!"

"Trey was very polite and professional. He quoted me half the time to complete the job than other quotes I got so it was also half the price. I will be calling Bay Coast anytime I need plumbing work done from now own."

"Dr. Rescue was fantastic, very transparent with pricing, on short notice was able to get me on the books, showed up on time and had the job done quicker than I had expected. Pedro, Edgar & Anthony were the gentlemen that worked on my install, they were very professional, friendly, and great at communicating. They also found additional items that they believe could help me, which I hadn't expected previously, Dr. Rescue called me directly and explained what it was and exactly what the price would be. The price was exact, to the penny, that was quoted to me. In the past I've had services that will quote one price but then charge another, not this time. All in all great to work with and I learned they offer more than just AC services, so I will be using them going forward on any home improvement projects that may pop up."

"This was a major project that took about one month to complete - much faster than most contractors. Jose always made good suggestions and often saved us money by repairing/painting instead of replacing. The job was started early and finished in less time than we expected. Sandra handled the contracts and financial arrangements. Both Jose and Sandra were very responsive and professional. We highly recommend J.Y.Handyman!"

"We installed a Badger 1/3 horsepower garbage disposer very soon after buying this home in 1995; it has been a workhorse & was covered by our AHS warranty. The plumber who came was on time & very professional. He made sure he didn't make a mess of his work area & made sure the disposer needed to be replaced. He didn't take too long (30-45 min) & suggested we wrap something on our sprinkler system because it would freeze hard that night which he didn't have to. My husband did wrap it & saved us that added expense!"

"Roberto came in right after Harvey on my daughters home that was for sale. She had an AC problem that wet the ceiling and some hardwood flooring. Roberto's guys came in and did a terrific job repairing and painting the ceiling, pulling up warped flooring and replacing it promptly. Everything looked great and we had a buyer two weeks later"

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Replacing a garbage disposal costs anywhere from $150 to $950, but the average cost is somewhere around $550. There are two types of garbage disposal units, and continuous feed disposals tend to cost more than batch feed disposals. Going for an aluminum garbage disposal is also significantly cheaper than choosing a stainless steel garbage disposal. You'll also need to factor in the horsepower of the motor, labor, and the removal and disposal of your old unit.

Whether it's worth repairing your garbage disposal depends on its age and the specific problem. Generally, if the unit is eight years old or younger, repair is a good option. For minor issues like a bad seal or a simple jam, a repair can be inexpensive, sometimes under $10. However, if the motor is broken (a repair that can cost $150 or more) or the unit is getting old, it's often more cost-effective to replace the entire disposal.

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.
