"There is not enough good things I can say about Edgar and his crew. I hired him to do 1 job - my driveway. But after a string of bad contractors it was immediately clear I was dealing with a different caliber of person who truly cared that the job was done right. So I hired him for all my other renovation needs...from fixing a bad exterior paint job - he did a very custom lime wash finish, taking the time to fill in all the gaps in my trim and bricks to ensure my house was sealed and looked clean, my paved sidewalks, sealed my deck, built a planter, and then a massive overhaul of my main staircase inside. In the Spring I plan to hire him for even more work. I trust him like family. Speaking of, he even did a very special project...taking a bridge in my backyard that my Dad built for me before he passed away, and making it a special accent piece with a beautiful railing added. His attention to detail and the time he takes to ensure he has thought through everything is rare and so appreciated. A previous contractor built laandscaping that was against city code and Edgar immediately recognized the issue and cmne up with a unique and beautiful solution. And as an added bonus, he carved my son and I's initials into our new, one of a kind paved driveway. My house is totally transformed, inside and out and having peace of mind that it was done with care and top expertise is priceless."

"I wanted to write a review for “Sprinkler Management Dream Yards” because they did an outstanding job on the installation of our new sprinkler system. From the first day I called for an appointment, everyone was so professional. Mark came to look over the project almost immediately and Crystal in the office kept me informed as to when they were coming to do the proposal and when to expect them for actually beginning the job and when it was to be completed. The foreman was equally impressive in making sure all the tubing and parts was put in perfectly and that the lawn did not suffer from unnecessary digging. He made sure that the driveway, walkways, and porch were clean when the job was done. He made sure that I fully understood how to use the remote watering system from my phone app. I told him he was a perfectionist and he said that he is a perfectionist, so he can demand the same from his team. After the job was completed, Mark called again to make sure the sprinkler system was installed to my liking and to ask if I had any questions. I wish all my service contacts were half as great as this team. The price & their service was truly amazing."

"I had a large amount of soil and weeds on the side of my house that I needed removed and replaced with river rock and a flagstone path to aid in drainage. I called multiple landscape services, but Eric at Also City Scapes was the only who called back, and even scheduled to come out to provide an estimate the next day. He arrived on time, gave a fair price, and I agreed to have him do the work. He said that his crew was currently working on a large project, but might be able to fit me in between projects the following week, if not it would be the week after. A week later, I called to see if they would be able to start that week. Eric told me that the project he was currently working on had some changes that required additional work, and his crew wouldn't be able to start on my project until the next week. I was not in a rush, and he did not guarantee that first start date, so I told him it was no problem at all. A week later, I called again and left a voice mail asking if his crew would still be able to make it that week. I did not receive a call back. A week later, I called again and spoke to Eric. He said that his team would be able to start my project the next Wednesday. I told him that was fine, but I wanted to confirm that it would definitely be Wednesday, as the promised start date had been pushed back multiple times already. He confirmed that it would definitely be Wednesday. The following Wednesday, I received a text from Eric, saying that his crew would be there Thursday to start the work. On Thursday, his crew arrived mid-day and cleared the dirt and weeds from the side of the house. They returned on Friday to dig the path leading from the driveway to the gate on the side of the house, and lay the materials. An orange cable from the internet service provider had been partially exposed a few feet way from the house for about a one foot length ever since I moved in. Unfortunately, the landscaping crew cut into the cable and we lost internet to the house. Fortunately, Spectrum was able to come out late in the day to run a new cable. I was glad to have all the dirt gone from the side of my house, and pleased with the quality of the work. I was not in a hurry, and I know it was a busy time of year, but I would have preferred to been promised a start date a month away and have the date met the first time, rather than repeatedly been promised earlier dates and that were not met."

"Said was a wonderful technician and worked quickly and efficiently. He explained what was the most likely cause of the broken garage door spring and offered advice on the future maintenance that would help prevent this from happening again. He was also a very nice man and I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needed work on their garage."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The average cost to repair an asphalt driveway is around $2,459 to $2,500. However, prices can range from $100 for minor DIY crack filling to over $4,000 for more extensive professional work. Costs are often calculated per foot, with minor repairs costing $1 to $3 per linear foot and heavier damage like potholes, sinking, or crumbling costing $2 to $5 per linear foot. Patching smaller potholes can cost around $2 to $3 per square foot. The final price depends on the severity and extent of the damage, driveway design, local contractor rates, and whether sealing is included. For major repairs, it is recommended to hire a professional, and you may get a better deal by bundling repair and sealing services together.

Common alternatives to a gravel driveway include concrete, asphalt, brick, stone pavers, and permeable pavers. Concrete and asphalt are generally the most affordable options. However, concrete can be prone to cracking in cold climates, while asphalt may soften in areas with high heat and direct sun exposure. For enhanced curb appeal, brick, stone, and permeable pavers are popular choices, though their installation can be more expensive due to intricate designs. Stone pavers offer a natural look and are sometimes installed with gravel around them. Both permeable pavers and brick driveways provide excellent drainage, which helps prevent flooding and reduce water runoff.

The choice between asphalt and concrete depends on your priorities, budget, and climate.

Concrete is generally more durable, lasting up to 50 years with minimal upkeep, and offers more customization options like staining and stamping, which can add more to a home's value. However, it is more expensive upfront and can be prone to cracking in cold climates where water can freeze and expand.

Asphalt is typically cheaper and quicker to install and is easier to repair. It performs better in colder climates. However, it requires more maintenance, including regular resealing, has a shorter lifespan, and can get hot and sticky in intense sunlight.

Ultimately, if durability and long-term value are key, concrete is often the better choice. If upfront cost and performance in cold weather are more important, asphalt may be preferable.

At a depth of two inches, a ton of asphalt covers around 80 to 100 square feet. However, the thicker the asphalt, the less surface area it will cover. That’s why measuring correctly is essential when estimating asphalt needs and costs to ensure you get enough material to cover your entire driveway, patio, or other asphalt surface.

Concrete is typically the best material for a driveway if you’re looking for longevity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance. But, it’s not ideal for areas with annual freeze-frost cycles, nor is it the most attractive option—although you can get it stamped or painted. If your location is consistently below freezing, asphalt may be a better choice.
