"We wanted to get on board with the current trend in doorbell cameras. Got a quote from ADT Provider, known as Safe Street USA, and felt their offer was more than fair. We have door sensors and motion detectors inside and the doorbell camera mounted outside. Nice to feel “with the times” in home automation and security."

"My next door neighbor's house was robbed last week, and I realized that I needed to do something to give me further peace of mind. Purchased new home security with ADT and opted to get the premium options with flood detection and carbon dioxide monitoring. Keep up the nice job ADT!"

"I had a door repair issue come up abruptly at night, and Danny responded to my request the following morning. I was able to quickly coordinate with him what my issue was and the fixed that was needed. Danny came to my house less than 48 hours after I placed my request and took care of the issue in less than an hour."

"I needed someone to replace a bracket and crank for my manual storm door. The contractor arrived on time with adequate tools to get the job done. He was professional as well as courteous, and encouraged me to call if anything goes awry. His price was very reasonable, and I am one happy customer."

"This was my first time using Home Advisor and it won't be my last. Houston Hurricane Security was great. I called and they came the next day. They gave me a time frame and were actually a little bit early! Love it. Anyway, they did a great job, explained everything as they when and were very reasonably priced. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Oct. 2017 We had used Houston Hurricane and Security a year ago and loved them. We needed them once more after Hurricane Harvey. We were actually still out of state but needed our home secured. They came out, fixed the problem. Words cannot express how grateful we are. I am sure they were extremely busy. They easily could have taken advantage of the situation."

"Install was easy. Up front cost was pretty low with Angie's List coupon. Monthly price is a little high compared to competing companies. Response time with alarms is excellent. I was advised to use glass break alarms within 10 ft of my first floor windows, which we installed correctly. I asked prior to installation if having one in the kitchen would cause false alarms due to dishes clanging, etc. I was told the glass break alarms are configured to a precise frequency that alarms with breaking glass. So, not a "no", but not really an answer. Well, every time we cook dinner, wash dishes or empty the dish washer, the kitchen glass break alarm gives a warning which would sound the alarm if it was set. This has caused us a number of false alarms while we've been away due to shifting bowls or plates in our drying rack. For the first several we've had to pay our police department $120 to check the house, and I was only notified after the first alarm that there was a cheaper option for a security company to drive by to check for a break in."

"After having some sensitivity issues with our security system, we had to call Smith Thompson to make some changes. They were very willing to work with us on the phone and come by to adjust our system for free. As it turns out, we only needed some minor changes. The tech was right on time and very helpful. I'd recommend this security system anytime.

Security Doors questions, answered by experts

Strike plates and security plates are the same thing, but there are strike plates that offer more security than others. For the highest security, look for plates made of heavy-duty steel, reinforced strike plates thicker than regular ones, and extended strike plates. It’s much harder to break into a door with these strike plates because they hold up better to force from attempted entry.

Security cameras do not need wiring if they are wireless, meaning they are battery-operated and can connect through Wi-Fi. You’ll need to change the batteries on a wireless camera and ensure you have a steady connection to Wi-Fi for video storage. If you have a wired security camera, you’ll need to plug it into an outlet or other power source and a DVR device.

You should always install cameras at exterior doors and windows. Other areas where you should place cameras are your front and back yards, the garage and driveway, common living areas, hallways and staircases, and the basement. Remember, you can start with a small Wi-Fi security camera system and always add more cameras if needed.

Keyless locks are great for convenience, letting you unlock doors with a code or your phone so you don't need to carry keys around. They also often come with helpful features like temporary codes for guests. On the downside, they can be more costly up front and do require batteries that will eventually need replacing. If you value ease of use and additional security features, keyless locks are worth the investment.

Yes, adding ease of use and remote access via smartphones.
