"After the 100+ temperature week we had in San Antonio, our AC struggling to cool, so we finally gave in and decided to make a call for insulation. We could feel the heat in the walls form the sun, so we spoke to Manuel at Insulation Works asking for a quote for wall insulation. He explained that while he could install insulation in the walls, it was likely not the problem, he suspected it was really our attic that needed insulation. He came to our home and gave us a quote for the walls and the attic. The attic had 2-4 inches of insulation while CPA recommends 13.5 inches. Our attic definitely needed some attention too. He explained how the walls cost much more to insulate but he really thinks we could get the best value just doing the attic which will not only cost less but would also cool the entire house, not just the rooms we added the wall insulation to. He explained how if we got attic insulation, we may not even want wall insulation, so he recommended we wait on the walls, and he could come back later if we decided we still wanted them done. The team, Manuel and Mari, came over and got to work within 2 days. They were both so very nice, friendly and professional. They wrapped my furniture and the floors to protect it from any dust or damage. They even brought corner protectors to protect my walls from any potential damage. They had all the professional machinery and tools needed to get the attic done quickly and correctly. In the end I had 17-18 inches of insulation in my attic. They quickly cleaned up and even vacuumed although there was not much of any mess I could even see. The team worked with me on filling out the rebate from CPS and even worked it out from our estimate. We didn't even know there was a rebate available. It felt like we were dealing with family even though we didn't know them before we made that call. We immediately felt a difference in the house and now that it's the day after it's amazing how much cooler the house is, and my AC is not having to work so hard. I don't even feel like the walls needed to be insulated anymore! He was right! There are so many companies that would have jumped at the chance to just charge me for the walls and attic, but Manuel was so honest it really blew us away. If we decide later, we want to add insulation to the walls we know exactly who we will be calling. If anyone needs any insulation work done, we definitely recommend Insulation Works!"

"This company produced the quality of insulation they promised. We needed attic insulation as well as perimeter wall insulation. We asked for closed cell with open cell on top. The work was exactly as promised. Chester and his crew arrived on time and completed the entire project in one day. We are very pleased with the quality of the product, the work ethic of the men and the price of the insulation. We are very pleased with this company and would highly recommend them to anyone needing spray foam insulation."

"

All the workers were very nice, courteous and pleasant to be around.  When they got into the ceiling they found that the ducts were insulated with asbestos, I asked the foreman if we should call someone about this and have it taken care of, he said no they could take care of it.  They enclosed the area with plastic and put on dust masks and went ahead with the teardown.  I felt very uncomfortable about all of this.

When they put in the new ductwork they did a weird offset for the vent to come into the living room and I never did understand the explanation as to why it was not straight like the old one also they did not insulate the new ductwork.

They did not fabricate the outlets into three of the rooms with enough metal to be able to screw the registers on properly so I  had them make some extensions and install them.  They did this with no complaints.

When it came time to turn on my heater I found out that some debris from the teardown had fallen down around the burners and caught fire, I turned it off and tried to clean out the debris but could not so I called Luis and he sent Danny out to clean it up.  Danny is such a nice guy, got it cleaned out and checked to make sure all was OK.  I really hate that the work was not what I expected because I really liked all the guys that worked on it.

"Starting from Crystal answering my phone call, to Ernie the estimator who sent me the quote on a 1100sq ft home R-30 insulation, and following up with Sergio, Larry, and Lorenzo who finished the job within 2 hours or so. Customer Service was EXCELLENT in all 3 departments."

"MARC JONES CONSTRUCTION TEAM  ARRIVED ON SCHEDULE AND INSTALLED THE SOLAR ARRAY OVER TWO DAYS.  ON MONDAY, WE HAD INSPECTION AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE ATTIC WAS INSULATED WITH FOAM TO REDUCE HEAT LOAD ON AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM.  EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY EXCEPT FOR INADVERTANTLY UNPLUGGING THE SYSTEM CIRCUITBREAKER DURING THE FOAMING OPERATIO.

"The owner was knowledgable in what did. His business encludes much more than spray foam. I hired him to spray foam my 2nd level subfloor. He completely sealed that 2nd level. He met and exceeded my expectation while others I interviewed would only want to insulate my subfoor with bat insulation hung with bailing wire. Borderland was one $60 more than they were. The job he dod was superior to anything anybody else could have done and I recommend him to anyone that needs this service and the detailing services he offers like Rhino lining, Concrete and landscape spary lining. Hire him, you wont be disappointed."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

If you already have plaster walls and ceilings, adding new plaster costs $2 to $10 per square foot. For an average-sized room, that would come out to $1,200 to $10,000. However, the cost to replace plaster with drywall is higher—running between $720 and $1,250 for a 10-by-8-foot wall or ceiling (not including drywall finishing).

It is more difficult to drywall a ceiling than it is to drywall a wall, but not so hard that DIYers can’t tackle it. One of the main issues with hanging drywall on your ceiling is getting it into place. Drywall isn’t light so, if you are hanging full drywall panels, you will need at least two (it’s better with more) people to hold the panel while you drill it into the ceiling as a single piece can weigh between 40 and 60 pounds and will need to be held in place for up to 10 minutes.

The person’s skill will affect how many drywall sheets they can hang in one day. Some people can hang 10 or more sheets in a day, while others may only hang six or seven sheets. It also depends on the framing complexity since custom cutting and fitting the drywall can prolong the process.

You can repair plaster ceilings yourself after the cause of the ceiling damage has been addressed. However, the repair can easily take 5 hours and can be slightly challenging for those without previous experience. If you do decide to flex your DIY muscle, have a helper to help hold the ladder and pass you the tools for safety purposes.

It is possible to apply plaster on the interior or exterior of your home, but we don’t recommend it. Plaster is easy to apply in theory, but in reality, it can be a challenging material to work with, and it’s difficult to get the finished product to look clean, even, and smooth. Many DIYers end up calling in a professional afterward to touch up the area or even redo it entirely because of mistakes they made in the process. Hiring a plaster pro will cost more, but it’s usually the best option to achieve high-quality results.
