Small jobs welcome

"Had a small water drip from a loose valve under the sink in the master bath. The water seeped into the concrete and under the solid wood floor in the family room causing the floor to buckle or crown. They removed the damaged area of the floor and replaced it with the same floor. Removed the shoe moulding. Sanded the entire floor so the repaired area and the rest of the floor would match. Applied 2 coats of polyurethane. Replaced the shoe moulding and transition pieces. Overall very good job. Not many companies do floor repair, only floor installation. This company tackled a tough job. The crew worked hard. The wood floor looks great and the damaged area can't be seen; the floor looks uniform throughout, which is what I was really worried about. I would recommend them."

"Once cleaned, a sealer was applied to the tile and grout. The floors looked like new! I was very satisfied with the work - the company showed up early, got right to work, and were done before I knew it. Unlike some vendors I have had in my home, there was no cell phone ringing, nor was there texting while the work was going on! I will definitely keep BTECC in mind when it is time for new carpet or to have carpets stretched!"

"Roberto was great at guiding us through the process. He helped us choose our granite and tiles, responding to our suggestions and providing guidance an ideas on what we could do. He talked us through the requirements and when we wanted to add on our 1/2 bath to the original kitchen contract he worked ot make sure that the granite we purchased would fit the small bath without having to buy additional granite. His prices were the best out of five companies we approached but it was his manner and knowledge which made us select him not just the price.

"After Hurricane Harvey flooding and the subsequent repairs to our home, our tile floors were in deplorable shape. Todd and Tylar were AWESOME to work with. The were very collaborative. They explained to us every step of the process and kept us in the loop though out. I would hire their team in a minute if we required any more work of this type. While the cost was not insignificant, it was reasonable. That was topped off by their services being preformed in an efficient and timely manner. The floors were all beautiful for the Holidays and many visitors. We can't thank them enough!"

"This is the second time I have used this service.  These guys are amazing.  My carpets looked wonderful after they left and they got out stains that other cleaners haven't.  I have 2 dogs, 3 cats and a very messy teenager who all contribute to the carpets being so dirty.  My carpets looked fresh and clean after they left.   I had been asking my husband for new wood floors because our carpet looked so bad but these guys made them look so good that I will probably never get my wood floors!  They were prompt on time and very detail oriented.

"Absolutely well! The gentlemen were extremely professional, and wore uniforms which helps ID them when they arrive. They came in verified their work order and then went straight to work. They cleaned up the floor below the pull down stairs to the attic that they tracked down (it's expected) they were just awesome!"

"Moved into this home about 8 months ago.  Most of the downstairs - Kitchen, Dining, Living, Laundry, large Pantry are Travertine.  There was no shine  at all on the Travertine - the floors were looking dull and dreary and they also looked darker than I would think travertine was supposed to look.  Have brick flooring in another room (small wine room) that also looked a little drab and dreary to me.  Wanted to get some opinions and bids for possible remedies

I  thought I got this contractor off Angies list - consulted with Angies to get a few contractors bids and opinions - but when I entered their name to submit this report, it didn't come up.  I had done a little internet research about travertine so maybe I stumbled upon this provider from another source.  Believe me , this company should be listed on Angies, glad I found Julian and his company. He did a fantastic job.

Got two bids, one from Marblelous and one from another well reputed Angies List Super Service Award Company that does stone cleaning and restoration.  Both bids came out about the same price wise on the interior travertine/brick floor work.  I was also bidding out about 1215 SF of slate restoration for our outside pool/patio and front porch area and I needed the company I selected to also be able to take care of some soot stains on our limestone fireplace surround that was not properly sealed  (small job so wanted to include it as part of the larger project).  The outside slate work is why I ended up going with Julian at Marbleous, he seemed much more knowledgable about the slate -- how to properly clean (not pressure washing because it causes the slate layers to flake off too much) , enhance and seal the slate properly and also seemed more knowledgable as to what we should do with the brick floor to add a little shine and enhance.  His price on the outside slate work was also about 1000.00 less than what the other company quoted.  Big difference ..  He also said if I did it all he would throw in the clean and seal of the FP for free.  Because I booked the same day I got the estimate, he also gave me a 10% discount -  good savings on a job of this magnitude.   His bid was more detailed -  outlining Sf of each room and area and cost per SF which I also like -- I hate it when they just give a dollar figure and no detail as to how they arrived at that price.

Julian is the owner of Marblelous and he also does the work himself. No subcontractors involved.  He is english speaking,  courteous and was very knowledgeable, happily answering all my questions.  It took 2.5 days to complete all the interior stone/brick work.  He didn't arrive early -- he arrived with his assistant typically around 10 AM and stopped before 5PM.  They moved the furniture and were careful with it, they taped off and put plastic around all  cabinetry, appliances, baseboards/walls, doors and areas where travertine met up with carpet or other tile.  Be aware it's a  bit disruptive  for the homeowner because these areas remain taped off and furniture displaced until the job is completed - so we couldn't really use the kitchen or downstairs living and dining areas for 2.5 days/ nights.

First they clean all with stone cleaner, wet grind so no dust particles getting on everything, allow travertine to dry completely, patch any holes or depressions in travertine,  then polish to the desired shine level (he did an area and let me determine how much shine I wanted on the floors then did the rest the same way). Sealing was the final step and he used a sealer he said would last minimum of 5 years, water repellant and also creates a slip resistant surface.  We will see how long it lasts.  He gave me a cleaner, mop, bucket for free with instructions on how to maintain the stone to have it looking nice for years to come.  The results are beautiful.  Turns out the previous owners had put in two types of travertine - darker and lighter tiles- so Julian said the previous owner must have had the lighter tiles stained to try and match the darker - Julian said shouldn't stain Travertine - will wear off, travertine is not meant to be stained.   No wonder certain areas looked so dull and brown -- it was a stain.  The stain came off of course during the cleaning, grinding process so the light and dark tiles are more noticeable , less uniformity, but it still looks 200 percent better.  They cleaned up, put all the furniture back in place, when the work was completed.  Excellent job Julian. His website has before and after pics of floors he restored if you are interested.  He did take some pics of mine so maybe he will post them. Seems he cleans, restores, and seals all types of stone, tile and grout.

The only complaint, and it is a small one for me, is that he was not that punctual.  All the days he was here, he said he would be here at 9:30 and didn't arrive until 10 or shortly thereafter, I was here anyway so it was no big deal to me but he really should have called and said he would be a little later.

I've already scheduled him to come out in a few weeks to do the exterior slate.  I'll write a report on that when he has completed the work."

"I have spent numerous hours (not to mention $$ on products) trying to clean the rust and permanent stains on the fiberglass tubs and surrounds in a condo I just recently purchased.  I contacted A1Tub & Tile, and they had an appointment available the next day.  I met them at the condo and then went back later in the day when they called to let me know they had completed the job.  The tubs/surrounds are absolutely beautiful -- they look brand new.  They were very careful to cover the floor, fixtures and walls in the bathroom to ensure that they only sprayed the product on the tub and surround.  They came back the next day to remove the tape, plastic, and butcher paper and to ensure that the product dried correctly.  I'm truly amazed at the difference.

I will be using them in the near future to refinish the bathroom sinks/counters and also possibly the kitchen countertop."

Floor Polishers questions, answered by experts

A floor polisher won’t remove scratches from a wood floor, but the polish can fill in surface scratches and make them all but invisible. If you run your fingernail gently over the scratch and it doesn’t catch, chances are that the polish will hide it. If it does catch, you might want to have your floors fully refinished, and you might need to have a professional floor sander in for particularly deep scratches. When in doubt, call a professional floor polisher to determine if polish will fill in your scratches or if you need more in-depth services.

Yes, you can polish an old cement floor. However, be aware that the first pass with the concrete grinder may reveal a few surprises and imperfections. You may also have to contend with the consequences of previous floor coverings, such as tile or carpet, which can leave a pattern in the concrete. Old concrete is more likely to produce uneven results if you want to use a dye or other coloring.

If you’re looking for commercial cleaners, just check the label to find options that say they are safe for vinyl. Otherwise, homemade cleaners work great for vinyl plank flooring. Baking soda paste works well for spot-cleaning, and vinegar mixed with water is best for all-over cleaning. You can even clean your floors with plain water, which is great for everyday maintenance.

Yes, you can mop hardwood floors with a damp flat or string mop as long as it is not soaking wet. Always avoid leaving standing water or fully soaking your hardwood floors, even if they are properly finished. A slightly wet mop, with or without cleaning solutions, will not damage the wood.

After carpet removal, prepare for new flooring by assessing the subfloor. You will want to address any imperfections to create a smooth and level base for installation. Remember, proper subfloor preparation is crucial for optimal new flooring results. Consider repairing and replacing damaged areas for a stable foundation. For both wood and concrete subfloors, consider sanding to remove any debris or adhesives remaining thoroughly.
