"This guy is not just a carpenter, he is an artist. I asked him to do chair rails and under frames in our dining room, as well as do a coffered ceiling. I had no idea what all this entailed, but he did. He came and measured, gave me options, and offered guidance. The results are beyond what I hoped for. His team left the space cleaner than they found it, and even helped me re hang the pictures and put the furniture back in place. Excellent choice for fine carpentry work!!!"

"The owner, Greg, first came to my home to repair a fence and gutter damaged by storms. He was punctual and pleasant. He completed the repairs quickly and satisfactorily. I was so pleased that I hired him to update my bathrooms. The work that he and his team did was so awesome. The completed work was just as I pictured. The attitude of Greg and team was positive, professional and proficient throughout. I will definitely hire him for more jobs and plan to recommend him to friends."

"Joshua VillaLobos repaired a wobbly drive through gate and a walk through gate for the wooden fence in my backyard. He adjusted the latches and fixed the gates so they wouldn't say or drag the ground. He did a great job and made sure I was pleased with his work. I also asked him if he could do another project for me while there, and he had the tools to do this unexpected request. Joshua was professional in every way, he showed up at the time agreed, worked steadily with expertise, knew exactly what materials were needed for the work I needed done, and charged me a fair and reasonable price. He's also a very nice man with a pleasing personality, and I felt comfortable in his presence."

"We chose John of CBR Builders to finish our new build. We were living out of state, which was quite the complicated process. We loved customizing our new home and John was quite accommodating. He has some extremely skilled tradesmen including the finish carpenters (Miguel), the tile crew (Daniel and Jr) and the painters (Kevin and Dave). After an extensive process, we love our home. John is your guy!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.
