"I was very pleased with the quality of the carpentry work but the painter who worked with the carpenter did not do a quality job. Would hire the carpenter again but would not opt to have anything painted."

"Greg was awesome! He was very nice and professional. He completely rebuilt my door frame for me and painted my door. Everyone else who quoted me just wanted to replace the entire door and frame and be done with it (and charge nearly a grand) but Greg built a new frame himself and let me keep my existing steel door which was still good and it saved me money. He even installed something I bought online to keep the rain out of the buildingâ ¦ Will definitely keep him in mind for any future projects/ repairs! Greg is the best!"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

Building involves setting foundation posts, framing with durable wood, adding roofing support, and protecting from elements with water-resistant finishes.

Your local building code will list all the framing requirements for whatever type of structure you're building. Most exterior walls require spacing of 16 inches on-center, while many non-load-bearing interior walls only require 24 inches of spacing. However, there are also varying requirements depending on your construction material, so checking your municipality's rules is essential.

Framing most homes takes anywhere between five and eight weeks to complete. You’ll need to account for inclement weather conditions, material shipment times, the number of crew members, and the weight of your materials. If the weather is too hot, wet, or cold for the installation, this process could take closer to eight weeks.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.
