"We thoroughly enjoyed working with Bryan and his crew. They did a fabulous job building our deck, screen porch, and outdoor picnic pavilion. They were so polite, conscientious, and precise with all they did. Really hard workers and you could tell they were doing their very best everyday. They also cleaned up after themselves. Bryan and his crew will definitely be our “go-to” guys in the future for whatever we need done. We just wish he had built our whole house!!"

"Any time I need work done or refer a friend, I contact Helt. They’re professional, on time, so the project right, and stick to what they say. If there’s a mess up (which is rare), they fix it and they stand by their word."

"They repaired my closet shelf that completely fell from wall. Dave was the best, sent pictures and came on site to look at the job. He made recommendations and suggestions for reinforcement. They were on time and completed the job. I am very happy with their work. I will definitely call them again."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

While framing a basement is not as difficult as finishing a basement, it's something you should typically leave to the pros. That’s because if something is installed correctly, it will affect your entire basement. However, you can take care of some of the smaller tasks, like filling holes or putting up some insulation.

When choosing a drywall anchor, consider the weight of the object you're hanging and how much weight the anchor will need to support. The heavier the weight, the stronger the anchor you'll need. You’ll find the weight capacity on the packaging when shopping for anchors.

Also, remember that you can use more than one anchor when hanging something on the wall. If you're using multiple anchors, divide the object weight by the number of anchors to determine how much each will need to support. If you need help deciding which drywall anchor to use, you can hire a handyperson to hang your objects.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.
