"Of all the contractors that worked hard to remodel my kitchen, Mr. Jose Lopez of High Quality Sheetrock Repair, was my favorite. After the old counter-top and old back-splash tile was removed, Mr. Lopez removed the damaged drywall and replaced it. He carefully cut around the electrical receptacles and the plumbing supply lines to avoid leaving large gaps. He made sure that the drywall was straight so that the new counter-top will lay flush against the wall. He aligned the seams to provide a smooth surface on which to install the new tile back-splash. When told that the new tile may be glass tile, he returned with paint and painted the new drywall white to ensure consistent coloration of the translucent tile. He charged no extra fees for the painting work. The beautifully laid and finished kitchen counter-top and back-splash tile are a testament to Mr. Lopez's forethought, conscientious attitude and careful attention to detail."

"Mr. Pool replied promptly to my request for an evaluation and estimate. He was the only roofer who actually got up to the roof on my 3-storey home to assess the problem directly (the others relied only on drones). He and his crew showed up punctually on the agreed day/time and they were able to complete the work on schedule. Everything was done professionally and the leak has not occurred again since the repair was done."

"I contacted Vargas Drywall after Hurricane Harvey struck. Long story short, my house was nearly destroyed. I contacted them, a week after we were able to get back, Edgar was really helpful from start to finish. He gave me a reasonable quote so I hired them in that exact moment and they started to work that same day. I had a wall that divided the living room and the dining room and i wanted to get rid of it to make more space, he gave me ideas on how it was possible to remove it and still keep a nice view, no kidding, my house was done within 3 days when others said it would take up to two weeks. Overall, my experience with them was incredible and I will keep on using their services. I would highly recommend them to anyone (in fact I did and they were satisfied as well) if you’re looking for a reliable, fast service and a great price, don’t hesitate on contacting them!"

"Highly professional every step of the way, from the first contact to the last inspection of completed work. Speed-Dry president, representatives and office personnel provided excellent communication. They were available to answer questions, even outside of normal business hours. The dry-out process was completed promptly. The workers who came to our home were respectful and skilled in repair, drywall replacement, finishing and painting. It was obvious they took pride in their work. They were very careful to protect or move furniture, draperies, wall hangings, ceiling fans, cabinets and appliances (including the refrigerator) so these would not get construction dust or paint on them. They matched our paint color perfectly. They cleaned up after their work. We were surprised at how quickly the work was completed and are very satisfied with the whole experience. Representatives including estimator also understood exactly what was required by our insurance company and because of their thoroughness our claim was processed smoothly.

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Applying spackle is a simple DIY project that most people can complete in just a few hours. Even homeowners who have little DIY experience can complete this project in an afternoon. However, if you're uncomfortable with the project or don't have the time, you can always hire a pro to help.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

If you’re installing new drywall, you may need to skim coat the drywall first for a smooth finish and to allow the primer to adhere to the wall. It’s only necessary if there are imperfections in your drywall due to issues with the studs or improper drywall installation. If you’re refreshing existing walls, you may want to skim coat if there are imperfections across the wall. As an alternative, you can repair your drywall and sand it for a smooth finish before painting.

Whether a drywall anchor can be reused depends on its material, type, and the method of removal. Plastic anchors, including expansion and self-drilling types, are generally designed for single use as they tend to break or deform upon removal. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts, are more durable and may be reusable if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle piece can fall into the wall cavity when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged during removal, for instance by having its head cut off, it cannot be reused regardless of the material.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.
