"We highly recommend Wayne for drywall replacement and repairs. He gave a fair price for drywall work in two rooms and was always very prompt and efficient. We were really happy to find someone who is willing to take small jobs and plan to hire him again in the future."

Customers say: Quick response

"Manuel completed two projects for me at different times. One involved drywall and painting and the other involved drywall, painting and a bit of carpentry. Both jobs were done very quickly considering what was involved. The work, itself, was excellent and exceeded my expectations both times. When finished, the holes in my living room ceiling and underneath my kitchen sink looked better than new ! In addition, his prices are very fair for the time spent and quality achieved. I could not recommend him more highly. Hire him once and he will be your call-back professional ever after."

"Just wanted to give a big shout-out to Patchmaster Katy for the great job they did repairing our drywall! They showed up exactly when they said they would, got the work done quickly, and the quality is fantastic?you can?t even tell there was ever any damage. On top of that, they were super respectful of our home, kept everything tidy, and cleaned up perfectly before leaving. It?s so nice to work with people who take pride in their work. Highly recommend if you ever need drywall repairs done right!"

Small jobs welcome

"Mark Engelhardt of MWE Contracting first worked for us when we needed disaster recovery that included replacement of cabinets (custom built, painted white), replacement of drywall, matching of texture on walls, replacement of baseboards and quarter round, and painting of walls and woodwork. We were pleased with his work, so hired him for remodeling. This included installation of 3 pocket doors, preparation for the master bath shower, tile work (master bath shower and floors), installation of frameless glass shower enclosure, removal of wallpaper, painting of the exterior of our house and fence, replacement of all interior door handles, and front door refinishing. When we had disc and pendant lights installed on the first floor, he repaired the ceiling cuts so that we could not tell where they had been. Mark is knowledgeable, trustworthy and pleasant to have in the home. The people he hires to do their specialties are all lovely. He works well with others, e.g. when cooperating with the electrician to remove the old fluorescent light and install pendant lights. He took care of city permits. Good communication. We are happy with his work and will hire him again when we are ready to do additional remodeling."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Plaster walls typically last between 30 and 70 years, but depending on the quality of the materials and the moisture levels in the building, they can last for over 100 years. With expert application and consistent maintenance, plaster can even last for centuries. To extend its lifespan, it is important to have the plaster professionally installed, address any water damage promptly, and repair small cracks as they appear. Regular inspections by a professional can help identify and address concerning cracks before they become significant issues.

The best way to make long, straight cuts is to use a utility knife and a T-square to score the sheet, snap along the score, and then finish the cut by cutting through the paper on the opposite side with the utility knife. If you’re making small cuts, curved cuts, or cutouts for electrical boxes or light fixtures, you can use a manual jab saw to keep costs down, but an electric spiral saw or oscillating multi-tool will get the cleanest, fastest cuts possible.

Applying plaster to a wall will usually cost between $2 and $10 per square foot for both the material and labor. The cost will vary based on the quality of the plaster you’re using and whether or not prep work is required before the work begins. Wall prep can add up to about 10% to your total costs. Plastering exterior walls can be more expensive in many cases because they are taller and require scaffolding and safety equipment.

You can put certain types of plaster over other types, but doing so isn't always the best idea. For example, putting a coat of gypsum over lime plaster is possible, but doing so will limit the lime plaster's breathability and potentially affect its performance.

Since cement plaster tends to leave a textured surface, no matter how much you smooth it, some people prefer to use gypsum plaster as a topcoat over cement plaster, creating a smoother surface.

While you can put new drywall over old drywall, it’s not always the best option. In some cases, drywalling over drywall can make it harder to find wires and pipes behind your walls and conceal more serious problems with your walls. It can also make the room smaller. On the plus side, putting drywall over drywall can improve soundproofing and insulation. Plus, it’s often less expensive than tearing down and adding new drywall.
