"Hired them about 8 months ago and the job went fine. Had work done on our veranda and dust was everywhere, so called them a couple of weeks ago, and due to the weather, 2 cases of flu (ours, not theirs) we had to change the date several times - to which they were very accommodating and flexible. As before, it was remarkable how much clearer our windows are!"

"The work went great. I found a water stain in my ceiling after a recent storm, and I wanted to get the repair done before the next rainstorm in the forecast. I spoke to Alex, and he showed a real interest in getting the job done and asked for any pictures that I had that could help him assess the job. He was able to help me out and get the repair done right away. He even showed me that there were some exposed nailheads (that should have been sealed by a previous contractor but weren't) and took care of that as well. The price was competitive (I quoted with another roofing company), and I am very satisfied."

"Very well.  Jordan's staff was very professional.  They moved my furniture and were very respectful and careful with my personal belongings.  The job took about 2 days longer than I anticipated but it was all good.   The flooring turned out great and aside from a few giant hand prints on the walls after they were finished, I was very pleased with the outcome. I would use Doninion again without hesitation

"The service was good. The man showed up with no materials to do the work. He wanted me to give him a personal credit card to buy the supplies. I didn't want to do that, so he drove to the nearest store and they called me to get my credit card number to pay for it. He should've showed up with either materials or had the finances to purchase materials and then charge me for them."

"I'm in love with my the patio cover! It is absolutely beautiful and I'm so glad I hired Tim and his crew to build it. I called Tim originally for a paint quote and told him about my other plans. That's when I learned his framing crew could build the patio cover I wanted. I hired Tim not only because he gave me the best quote but he was very knowledgeable and I was very impressed by the work they would do. The crew even came back after I had my patio poured and they capped the bottom of the cedar posts."

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Pros of installing a skylight include the fact that you will get much more natural light in your home, skylights can make your room look bigger than it actually is, and your home may increase in value. Cons include difficult upkeep (you may have to get on a ladder to clean and maintain them), higher installation costs, and, potentially, too much heat gain from all the extra sunlight.

Whether you need a permit to install a skylight depends on the scope of the project and local regulations. Generally, permits are required if the installation involves altering the structural components of your home, such as moving roof rafters. In some municipalities, a permit might also be necessary if the skylight protrudes above the highest point of your existing roof. However, if no structural changes are made, a permit may not be needed. The cost for a skylight installation permit is typically under $100. A convenient time to add a skylight is during a roof replacement, as your contractor can incorporate the new opening into the design.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.

Installation typically takes 1-2 days, depending on the required roof type and structural modifications.

When planning out skylights and deciding how big they should be, it's important to look at the dimensions of the interior space. In addition to changing a room aesthetically, skylights influence the illumination and temperature of the space below. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends that a skylight’s size should never be more than 5% of the floor area in rooms with many windows.
