"Plumber charged a lot to hack up my house to fix a leaking pipe behind the dishwasher. He didn't hook up the dishwasher drain line correctly and it leaked. Had to fix myself. They used a scrap pipe instead of the proper $2 part. They wanted to charge me a service fee to come out and fix their problem. I would give zero stars if I could. Over $2200 for bad work. Avoid these guys!"

Some signs that a septic tank is full include wastewater or even sewage backing up into drains in the house, foul smells coming up through the drains or around the yard, pooling water in the yard, spongy soil underfoot around the septic tank, gurgling noises in the pipes, or grass that looks lusher or greener than normal without any new lawn care services.

On average, septic tanks last between 20 and 40 years. However, this time frame may vary depending on a few factors, including the tank’s material and the soil type. In short, human waste and toilet paper are the only things that should go into your septic tank.

A septic tank always has some amount of liquid in it—which should usually be 8 to 12 inches from the top of the tank. If the liquid level is higher than that or is overflowing the drainage pipe that leads out to the leach field, the tank may be too full and in need of pumping.

A septic tank needs to be pumped once every three years on average. However, every septic tank has different needs, and the proper service interval for your system may be every five years, or as frequent as an annual pump-out. Baking soda does very little to nothing for a septic tank, but it can help unclog a drain or clean out a garbage disposal. Rotten tomatoes and yeast are the best ways to increase the bacteria in your septic tank naturally. You can add these to your system once every three months.
