"Scott Stock was responsible for building all new drawers and building and installing all new doors on our cabinets. Scott was extremely reliable, honest and kept us up to date on each part of the project. We are very pleased as our home looks like we have new custom cabinets in every room. I highly recommend Marott Contractors."

"EMJ (Ruben) were very professional, always on time with great attitudes, and always smiling. The work was superb they worked with me until I was completely happy. I love my new bathroom! We have had them back for a few other odd jobs fixing the crown molding for one. Will have them back for anything else we decide to do here in our home. Love their work and their work ethics. Give them a call you will not be disappointed. Donna Mahan"

Customers say: Quick response

"Danny was very responsive, courteous, and professional. He was focused on customer satisfaction and quality. He kept me informed and met commitments. I think he under priced his work. The vanity is amazing - exactly what I envisioned! We decided to stain instead of paint so I need to complete the staining (which is the case with all contractors) otherwise Iâ d post a picture. We ran into a few issues because our floor and walls werenâ t level but Danny had no problem with that and he partnered with the counter company when they had questions to ensure all came out to my satisfaction. I cannot say enough about Danny - if you think customer service is a thing of the past - you definitely need to give Danny a call - heâ ll treat you right! I HIGHLY recommend J4 Cabinetry."

Closets questions, answered by experts

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.

Plywood offers excellent stability and strength for drawer construction. Baltic birch plywood provides a premium appearance, while standard hardwood plywood offers good value. Solid wood works well but requires more attention to grain direction and seasonal movement.

The differences between a built-in closet and a walk-in aren’t that different from a built-in wardrobe and a walk-in closet. It’s fairly simple—a walk-in closet is a closet you can physically enter, stand in, and walk around in. A built-in (whether wardrobe or closet) is more akin to covered shelves installed into a recess in the wall. Another big difference is walk-in closets almost always have traditional full-size doors, while built-ins either have no doors or use sliding doors.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

If you have a bathroom closet with movable shelves, you can place them at virtually any spacing that works for you. Useful measurements between shelves in the working, or middle, section can be 10 to 16 inches for towels or linens. Lower or higher shelving could be up to 24 inches between shelves to store lesser-used or bulky items or boxes.
