"Sonny and his mate have done excellent pressure wash side cleaning. Am completely satisfied with the work. He showed up in a weekend while he drove by North naperville area and gave estimates. Right away asked him to clean one side but unfortunately his equipment ran into issue in the mid way for that He respectfully apologized and gave generous discount and promised to do the job later in the week. He explained about the cleaning process and also answered to my concerns. Am happy that all my plants around the side are safe even after 2 days of cleaning."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Expect to spend around $10,000 to $11,000 to replace a 20-by-20-foot deck. Using high-end materials like composite or exotic hardwoods can drive up the cost, as can custom features and design elements. You can also expect to pay more than average if your deck replacement requires a site evaluation or if you need the work done during the busy season.

Both aluminum and composite decking materials are environmentally friendly, with aluminum decking coming in as the most eco-friendly option.

Though composite decking helps remove plastics from landfills, recycles wood, and lasts longer than traditional wood decks, it’s not recyclable and only lasts for 25 to 30 years on average. Aluminum can last well over 30 years and is almost always recyclable.

Both a well-constructed deck and a patio can add value to your home. Patios are generally cheaper to build but don’t offer the same aesthetics as a quality deck. Therefore, decks can be more appealing to buyers than patios, increasing a home's resale value.

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

What goes under your floating deck depends on your preferences. Some homeowners put landscaping fabric underneath their decks to prevent weeds from popping up through the boards. Others choose to build a floating deck over grass or gravel. However, it’s best not to set your deck directly on the ground. Instead, set your deck on blocks to keep it elevated enough to prevent moisture from rotting the wood.
