Armstrong Plumbing & Air is a family owned business and was started in 1934 by E.H Armstrong. We perform Heating, Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Sheet Metal Fabrication work throughout West Texas. Many people associate us with commercial work, but we have always been involved in residential service and installation as well. License number: TACLA00035C/M - 17317. Additional Contact Beth Carpenter

"In mid-June we realized that our decrepit HVAC system was on its last legs. We had the ducting system examined and it was in rough shape with holes and gouges which resulted in poor air quality. We got quotes from several HVAC contractors. Armstrong Mechanical came out on top. We got a top rated Lennox system, completely new ductwork, and insulation blown in, all at a very reasonable price. Armstrong completely replaced the 3 foot plenum, which is the stack over the blower unit that connects to the attic ductwork. Some companies just slide a new blower unit in and connect it to the original plenum which can be caked with years of dirt. Armstrong installed duct elbows over raised rafters and dampers in the ducts. Both improve the airflow to each room. Armstrong also put in all new boots, the metal sleeve that joins the air vent grate to the ducting. Our old ones were caked with residue from when our home was renovated and the ceilings textured. They added a vent to our stale walk-in closet. The air intake vents are embedded in the concrete foundation of our home and could not be replaced. However, the installation techs cleaned them using an extended vacuum hose. We had a glitch a couple of weeks after installation arising from fluctuations in the electrical grid due to Lubbock's changeover to ERCOT. Armstrong sent someone over within a couple of hours of our phone call. They installed a surge protector at no cost to us under our service contract. Armstrong Mechanical's Comfort Specialist David T and their service techs were wonderful to work with. They were very friendly, helpful, and patiently explained things. The installation was done carefully and efficiently. The service techs kept the areas they worked in clean. We strongly endorse Armstrong Mechanical and Lennox. If you need a new HVAC system or air conditioning/heater servicing, then you "Better Call Armstrong!""

Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Regularly cleaning filters, lint traps, and vents and maintaining balanced loads aid in optimizing performance and longevity.

Expect costs between $100 and $200, depending on the vent system's complexity and accessibility and regional pricing differences.

Using a leaf blower to clean your dryer vent isn't a good idea. Theoretically, the leaf blower should push the lint and debris toward the exterior vent opening, helping it exit. That's usually not what happens, though.

Instead, the lint can get stuck further in the vent, creating a blockage and making the problem worse. You need a scrubbing tool, such as the rotating brush head on a dryer cleaning kit, to push the lint out of the ductwork.

Using less toilet paper is the easiest way to prevent future clogs. Also, avoid flushing sanitary products, thick paper towels, or hair down the toilet. If you’ve been using a brick in the tank to reduce the water used to flush the toilet, take it out immediately. Bricks will eventually fall apart and clog your toilet drain. Keeping your toilet lid closed also helps avoid future clogs.

Your dryer vent hose should be as straight as you can possibly get it. A straight vent means less lint buildup in the hose. If the hose has a lot of bends and turns, it’s much easier and much more likely for lint to get stuck along the line, meaning you’ll have to clean it out a lot more often to decrease the risk of a total blockage or a fire.
