"Ray was great about keeping in contact. We purchased our home about 10 years ago. The previous homeowner had the dryer venting into the attic above the garage. We had never had the dryer vent cleaned out and had no idea this was the setup. Ray was able to get this corrected within a few days of discovering the problem. How it managed to pass inspection when we bought the house I will never know. But now, thanks to Ray I know it is done correctly. Ray also noticed an issue with our brick chimney that we will be getting fixed in the near future."

Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you happen to disassemble your dryer vent and feel the inside of the duct immediately after drying a load of laundry, it will likely feel damp and warm. That’s normal, as the vent has just finished moving the humidity and moisture from your laundry to the exterior of your property. However, if your dryer vent has water droplets in it at any time, it’s a sign that there’s trouble with the machine’s ventilation. You should call in a professional right away to get the issue fixed.

Your dryer vent hose should be as straight as you can possibly get it. A straight vent means less lint buildup in the hose. If the hose has a lot of bends and turns, it’s much easier and much more likely for lint to get stuck along the line, meaning you’ll have to clean it out a lot more often to decrease the risk of a total blockage or a fire.

You can install a washer and dryer in most places throughout your house, provided you have the proper plumbing lines and electrical outlets needed. You’ll also need enough space to install ventilation for the dryer, which can limit where you install the washer and dryer. Common places to install a washer and dryer in a house include a dedicated laundry room, the basement, a bathroom, a hall closet, or even a kitchen. Keep in mind: It will cost a lot more money to install a washer or dryer in a space that is not currently designed to support these appliances.

Dryers pull in air from a circular opening in the back of the dryer. The dryer's heating element heats the air, and a blower fan circulates the hot air through the drum. The hot air travels outside the dryer through a vent or is cooled by a heat exchanger that condenses the steam into water and sends it down a drainpipe or to a containment compartment.

Dryer vents commonly need to be replaced every one to three years. This will depend on the rate at which you dry loads, how often you clean your vent, and what type of vent you have. For instance, regular care will prolong the life span of most options, while aluminum foil vents may need to be replaced more frequently with or without regular maintenance.
