"Called in for Possum and skunk hanging out in my backyard. Chris and Adrian came out and setup traps. They were very professional and great at what they do. Caught both culprits. I would recommend Critter Pros if you're dealing with any wildlife type issues."

"They have been doing my pest control for more than 10 years. Hector is great to work with and his follow up is always appreciated. I had a little problem with silverfish and he made it a point to send someone out with some packets to stop that and did not charge me for the follow up service. Highly recommend them!"

"Jacob responded quickly to my request for a quote. He called me and we talked about my termite situation. Based on our conversation he gave me a quote and said he could come out to look at the problem and confirm it if I wanted him to. He came out and looked at the job and confirmed his quote and we made an appointment for him to complete the work. Jacob is very knowledgable and pleasant to deal with and did a great job. I highly recommend South Texas Pest Control."

"The technitian was punctual & professional and for the most part have sound advice regarding our rodent problem. However the extermination services were lacking as he only set up 4 sticky boards and one trap enclosure with little or no poison (I checked the trap the following day and it was empty of both rodents and poison and there was no sign of a dead rodent anywhere in the garage or within a 15 ft radius of it.) Additionally, the "exclusion" part of the deal I purchased through AL was completely ignored even after specifically pointing out the obvious point of entrance and asking it be addressed. I was able to get rid of 2 rodents using the sticky boards but had to hire another professional to set better/more traps in order to get the rest of them; 5 total. Overall not the worse service for the price but I prefer not having to hire multiple professionals to address one problem."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Methods include exclusion devices, netting, and sealing entry points. Professionals ensure compliance with local wildlife regulations.

No, mothballs do not keep bats away. Not only are mothballs completely ineffective when repelling or removing bats, but using them could be illegal, depending on where you live. Remember, bats are federally protected, and it's illegal to use chemicals during the removal process, and mothballs tend to fall into this category.

Finding a dead bat in your home can be frightening, even during spooky season. The United States Department of Interior states that if you find a dead bat, take these steps:

  • Contact your state wildlife agency to report the finding

  • Photograph the bat safely to help the wildlife agency determine the species

  • Use disposable gloves to place the bat into a plastic bag, making sure to spray with disinfectant and close the bag securely

  • Thoroughly clean your hands and any clothing that came into contact with the bat

If you see one dead bat, you might have a large bat infestation that needs to be treated immediately. Call a local pest control company to properly inspect your home for other bats.

Hanging wind chimes or motion-activated speakers near your home may be an effective way to deter woodpeckers, as sudden movement and sound often scare birds away. You could also try using reflective decorative items such as pinwheels or mirrors or placing decoys of large predatory birds in your yard. If these measures don’t deter the woodpeckers, you may need the help of a bird removal pro.

When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. If the bird is pecking to mark its territory or attract a mate, it may leave dents rather than holes, and the noise will stop when the mating season starts in spring.
