"This is my first time using Legend Plumbing & Septic. I discovered an issue with my garbage disposal and they had availability the following afternoon to come out and replace it. They arrived within the appointment window, called before arriving to let me know they were on their way, and finished the work quickly and efficiently. During this time of social distancing and staying safe with COVID-19, the technician wore all the right PPE needed. I would definitely hire them again and would definitely recommend them."

"I like the water filter they gave me. I can get the water straight from the tap. They gave me a free installation because I am an Angie's List member. All the salt is removed from my water. They told me if I referred anyone to them they would give me $500 credit. My skin feels better and all my food and coffee I make with my water taste better. Installing a salt filter is not as good because you end up loosing 300 gallons of water a month. One time I called to tell them my filter was leaking and they found everything was running and they didn't charge me."

"The experienced turned out very well.  I did not pay more than the big deal.  I really appreciate that they do not try to do big sales for anything more.  They were on time.   They gave a thirty minute call and they let me know what services were available but did not try to sell me anything.  They were quick and efficient.  They were very nice and they did a good job.  They did an excellent job with cleaning the seal around the toilet.

"Charles was such a pleasure to work with! I initially wanted to get a quote for some air vent installations. Charles took the time to look over the setup and provided a detailed breakdown of labor (very reasonable!) vs. cost for parts. He then showed up on time, completed the work, and cleaned up after with no time wasted. I would highly recommend him and definitely work with him again on future projects."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

If you cook a lot or have a larger household, a garbage disposal can be worth it, since it streamlines your kitchen duties and helps to keep food waste out of landfills. It helps to know the cost of garbage disposal installation before you make your decision. The average price is about $400, but you can expect to pay more for higher-end models or if you hire a pro to do the job for you.

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.

In some cases, it’s more cost-effective in the long run to replace a garbage disposal, but it depends on the specific issue you’re having and the age of your disposal. You should ask a garbage disposal repair tech for a quote to repair your appliance and then see if it would be more worthwhile to replace it. Additionally, garbage disposals last for around 15 years, so if you know your appliance is reaching that age, it’s likely better to pay for a new garbage disposal rather than sink money into repairs.

While the drain connection for a garbage disposal is nearly universal and fits standard sink drain holes of 3 1/2 to 4 inches, the size of the disposal unit itself is not. You must have enough space in the cabinet underneath your sink to accommodate the disposal's housing. A larger model may not fit in a compact cabinet or if the existing plumbing is arranged in an unusual way. Before buying a new garbage disposal, measure the available space under your sink. If you are replacing an old unit, it's often easiest to choose a new model of a similar size.
