"Eric arrived promptly on the appointed day and explained precisely what he would be doing. Because of pre-existing stains, I chose the Rotovac Restore Package which was very comprehensive. Eric carefully set up his outdoor and indoor equipment so as to not damage my landscaping and interior walls and trim. Throughout the process Eric kept me informed and answered all my questions. He was personable, experienced, and knowledgeable. After the cleaning, he Scotchguarded the carpets and then reinstalled my oriental rug. The carpets looked so much better, with only the most intransigent stains remaining, although not nearly as noticeable. I was very satisfied with the results."

"What a pleasure to work with a true professional! Ken was timely, knowledgeable, informative, and nice to my two pesky dogs (he even brought dog treats). After assessing the situation, Ken emailed me an estimate before the end of the day. He did the job himself, and the results are outstanding. I got far better results than I could ever have imagined. Additionally, he taught me how to maintain the new finish and left the necessary product with me. As many of you know, slate maintenance can be quite tricky. Do not attempt to do this type of job yourself! Call Ken and have the job done right the first time. You will save time and money. He uses superior products unavailable at home centers or even tile distributors and gets superior results. This man has done his homework. Benefit from his knowledge and experience, and enjoy your beautiful floors!"

"Wow! Very prompt, personable and very experienced. Better than on time completion with excellent quality and attention to detail. Dovetailed a new tile kitchen counter to an existing subway tile backsplash, truly unable to see a transition. Terrific!"

"Allen Floors did an excellent job in providing me new carpeting in my bedrooms and closets. David and Johnny had a no-pressure sales pitch and we're knowledgeable about their products. The installation crew did a 1st rate job. I have been very happy with my new carpeting. I would definitely recommend Allen Floors and would use them again in the future."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

On average, tiling a bathroom involves about 12 hours of labor, usually spread over two to three days to accommodate prep work and curing times. A professional tiler can often complete the installation in 6 to 8 hours, whereas a DIYer might take 10 to 16 hours. The total project time is influenced by factors like the bathroom layout, tile type, and necessary prep work, such as removing old tile. The process includes specific timelines for different areas; for example, tiling a floor takes about six hours, while a shower area can take six to ten hours. It is essential to allow for adequate curing time—typically 24 hours each—for the mortar, grout, and caulk, which is why the project extends over several days.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

Regrouting is cheaper than retiling, and it involves less work. Grout is available in a wide range of colors, making it a cost-effective way to improve the look of any tiled area in your home.

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.

Add a T-shaped spacer to each corner of a tile when placing it. You’ll want to nudge the tiles closer together so the spacers are touching each corner. When you’re done installing your tile, you can remove each spacer, wash them, and use them for your next project.
