"Excellent job by the Rodriguez Tile Company. The boss advised me on my best options and executed the installation wonderfully. We encountered some unexpected challenges that added some time to my job but the team worked professionally and creatively to achieve a spectacular result. We have beautiful porcelain tile and I’m thankful. (We hired this team for the floor tile after they completed an exquisite backsplash for us.)"

"Alan and his team were awesome. Alan went through my space and looked at the tile I had already bought and went over everything involved in the project. He explained things more thoroughly than anyone else I had talked to. His price was not the lowest, but his expertise and the workmanship was worth the cost. The crew arrived on time each day and worked hard. they measured and leveled each tile as they laid it. They were very polite and cleaned up each day. The floors looked great and eveything was completed when they left at the end of the project. The floor is beautiful! I get so many compliments from people who see my floors and I have no buyers remorse at all. I am hoping to hire them again to do more tile work!"

"Absolutely would hire this company again! Alan was very hands on with the project and had his tile guy out to the house in a very reasonable time. Very good work from start to finish - when done all the mess was gone and just a beautiful tile fireplace. Call this company first and you won't be disappointed!!!!!"

"I’m very happy and satisfied with the work from Abrahim and his friend Muhammad. I requested two walls to be installed for my bathroom and bedroom to be connected, and they have done such an excellent job. They had also shifted and flipped the attic door in order to complete the two walls and then afterwards they had painted the bedroom with a nice accent color which is excellent paintwork I must say. I’m also thankful for the consultation Abrahim had provided in order for us to get the job done. He explained all the possibilities and was extremely helpful and kind. And the fact that the project was completed in 3 days is amazing. They had exceeded my expectations and I’m truly grateful for the service. I really do recommend Abrahim and his team to anyone who is looking for such services. Thank you very much again, and I wish this business nothing but the best."

"We had a wonderful experience with Splash Painting & Remodeling. Rene is excellent at selecting and managing the best contractors. We had our bathroom gutted with updates of everything from walls, tile, electrical, plumbing, fixtures, lighting, and cabinetry. Many contractors only seemed to work with stock cabinetry from the store, but Rene had arranged for custom cabinetry which perfectly meets our needs. We are very happy with the results."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward.

When choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile, the best option depends on your specific needs, budget, and project application. Porcelain tile is generally more durable, denser, and harder than ceramic, making it a good choice for busy, high-traffic areas. It also offers superior moisture resistance, making it ideal for moisture-retaining spaces. However, porcelain is typically more expensive, and its hardness can make it brittle, potentially causing it to crack if a heavy object is dropped on it. In contrast, ceramic tile is a more budget-friendly option with lower material and installation costs. It is softer and easier to work with, making it a great choice for DIY projects. While not as durable as porcelain, ceramic is still a quality material suitable for many home applications, particularly small, decorative projects.

Yes, you can tile a shower as a DIY project, and you can save hundreds of dollars in labor costs by doing so. However, you’ll need to rent or buy quite a few tools and supplies for the job, including a saw, tile nippers, and a new shower pan. In terms of the work itself, you should be prepared to tackle a variety of different tasks, including measuring and ordering materials, removing old tile, waterproofing the wall, adding rows of tile, grouting, and more.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.
