"Working with Norwood Roofing was so easy and painless. This was our first Home Owner's claim and to say we were clueless is an understatement. Mike Norwood was kind enough to guide us through every step of the process and made sure that we were totally aware and comfortable the whole time. He even helped me out by communicating directly with the Insurance company when they started to give me the run around! I absolutely recommend Norwood Roofing to anyone in need of roofing or repair, you won't regret it!"

"They repaired a residential flat roof and it is difficult to find a roofer as most flat roofs are commercial. They did a good job and were very responsible for attending to my roofing needs. I would use them again."

"We can't recommend this company highly enough. They installed a new roof and gutters and made exterior carpentry repairs in only a few days. My husband and I are meticulous about good quality work, colors, design, etc, and Sean was extremely patient throughout the process, always going the extra mile to do whatever we asked and make us happy with the finished result. He also offered suggestions about such things as improving ventilation, upgrading skylights for better heat-control, etc, which we appreciated. The insurance process was made easy, as well. It is rare to find a company with a work ethic like that of Liberty Roofing. We asked Sean for extra business cards to hand out to our friends!"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, moss can be dangerous for your roof if left in place to grow without treatment. The moss soaks up and holds moisture. Having a constantly damp roof could lead to problems with rot for the parts of the roof that consist of wood. Additionally, a patch of thick moss may draw insects and birds, which could damage the roof. Thick moss could block the roof’s drainage system. Water then may back up after a rainstorm and cause further damage that could eventually lead to roof repair expenses or the cost of roof replacement.

Unfortunately, there’s no definitive answer to this question, but the wind rating of your shingles will give you a good idea of what wind speeds can damage your roof. If you’re concerned about damage, inspect your roof following windy conditions to look for signs of wind damage to your shingles. When in doubt, consider hiring a professional who fixes roofs to carry out an expert inspection. Remember that hurricanes, tropical storms, and tornadoes are likely to cause the most damage, but even severe thunderstorms can bring winds that compromise your roofing system.

Skipping the installation of a drip edge or gutter apron can lead to significant water damage. Without this component, water is more likely to seep under roofing materials or leak behind gutters, damaging the fascia, soffits, siding, and even the interior of your home, such as the attic. Over time, this moisture can cause rot, mold, and deterioration. In colder climates, a missing drip edge also increases the risk of ice dams, which can lead to expensive repairs. A drip edge is an essential part of a roof's drainage system, and some local building codes may even require its installation to protect the home from water damage.

Metal roofs have a bad reputation for being loud, even if that's not necessarily true—it's usually only thin tin or sheet metal roofs that are loud during storms. Stone coating adds a layer to the metal that severely cuts down on any noise from rain. In many ways, stone-coated steel roofs are quieter than your average, run-of-the-mill asphalt shingle roof.

Always inform your insurance company when you get a new roof. A new roof may entitle you to lower rates or discounts, and if you need to make a claim, they’ll have up-to-date information on your roof. You’ll need to provide documentation—ask your insurance agent what you need to submit to prove you had your roof replaced.
