"The gentleman who provided the service for my driveway was Keith. He came all the way out from Ft Worth to Van Alstyne ( over an one hour drive) to discuss my situation. I had a dirt driveway that was not level and would retain water after a good rain. Keith was able to build the driveway up and level it. The finished product looks great. A very fair price for the quality of work. If you have any driveway needs I would give Keith a call. You will not be disappointed with their work."

"I am very pleased with the work done by East Texas Asphalt. My nearly 20 year old driveway had some serious damages that needed repair. The repairs made by East Texas Asphalt exceeded my expectations. They also resealed the entire driveway and corrected other smaller areas that were deteriorating. I would call East Texas Asphalt again! And will recommend them to others."

"I think they did okay. I don't know if they did a good job or not. So far, it's been good, but at the very end of the project, I wanted some drawings of what they did and they went out of business and never called me back. There was some work that didn't get done. They just totally went out of business. They were the oldest company in the country at that time. They'd been doing this for like 100 years and they totally went out of business. If anything goes wrong, they didn't quite finish anything. They finished enough, so I was happy with that. I'm just concerned that if something happens, I don't have any recourse. At the very end, they just didn't show up. Also, there was some stuff they were talking about, some of the guys were involved with drugs. It got ugly a little bit. They had finished the work so I'm not real concerned. It's just that I'm glad they got it done and they did a good job. It seems that the house is in pretty good shape. The fact that when I called them for drawings, so I could know what they did, they never got back to me. I called Texas. The phone kept ringing. They wouldn't ring. I forget where I found out they went out of business. Somebody told me because I did a bunch of calling. They didn't always show up when they said they should. It felt funny. There was some drug things involved. They subcontracted to do some other work and it was kind of shady. I didn't do too many bids. I did like 2 of them. They were both about the same. It's going to take 3 or 4 years before the house settles, so I don't know about the quality. They did get the work done. They were nice fellows but something just seemed funny. I just felt weird about the people they hired. It just didn't feel right. At that point, I had just broken some bones and I was on oxycodone for 3 months but that was my impression at that time. If we have any house problems, I am going to try to do something, but I think they did okay. It's just kind of hard to tell without time passing."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

While blacktop is a type of asphalt, the terms should not be used interchangeably, as not all asphalt qualifies as blacktop. The primary differences are in their composition, production process, and ideal applications. Blacktop contains more stone than other types of asphalt and is heated to a higher temperature during production—300°F or more—while hot-mix asphalt is heated to between 275°F and 300°F. The ratio of bitumen (a tar-like crude oil) is a key differentiator, though sources vary: some state blacktop has less bitumen, making it less durable, while others claim it has a higher ratio. Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

Even with regular maintenance, most driveways don’t last much longer than 30 years. Alligator cracking is a clear warning sign that your driveway’s foundation is failing, and cracks that are deep and wide can let water in, causing more damage. Standing water is another red flag. If your driveway doesn’t drain properly, it’s going to degrade slowly. Finally, if you’re seeing dips or uneven patches, that’s a sign the base layer or soil is shifting. If these issues pop up, it’s time to replace your driveway.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

While some areas may allow for a slope of up to 20%, this is often the maximum slope for driveways, with a few exceptions of up to 25%. Other regions may have a maximum of 12%, 15%, or 18%, so check with your local building department to ensure you’re laying a driveway that is up to code for your location.

In terms of durability, concrete driveways can last more than 50 years when properly maintained, compared to the typical 30 years for an asphalt driveway. However, the durability depends on the climate, base material and thickness, and thickness of the concrete or asphalt used. The longevity of concrete or asphalt driveways also depends on how well it’s maintained and the amount of wear and tear it endures.
