"I CANNOT say enough good things about Tecton. Aaron Utter and his team were incredibly patient and catered to every ask on this project, bringing our dream patio to life. He pays attention to every detail and ensures it's done accurately, even if that meant doing the masonry himself folks. We don't like our new living space... we love it. I highly recommend Aaron as a Mason, an honest contractor, and as an all-around good human. Instead of putting extra money in his pockets, he makes recommendations for you per YOUR budget, not his. 10/10 and more than 5 stars are deserved. Dreaming up another project in 3, 2, 1..."

"I love this is a family business that has been in business successfully for a long time. That says a lot. James was so professional, honest, and took his time to check out all the work to be done and to answer any questions I had. He was reassuring and thorough. Their job was to do a lot of repairs on cracking mortar and for loose or missing mortar. When the work was done, I had a hard time finding where I had needed the repair work because James was so precise in matching the color. The crew did an amazing job, very skilled. I never thought I would be so excited about masonry, but I am because of the skills and craftsmanship of this company. 100% recommended. ."

"Heath and his crew did a fantastic job! We had a couple of half inch cracks over our garage that were only getting bigger. Heath came out when he said he would and gave us a couple of options. We elected to go with concrete piers. Heath and Katie were excellent at communicating the process and performing the work when they said they would. They were even able to save some of our plants. I honestly didn’t expect for any of them to survive. The results were amazing! I highly recommend them for any foundation repair needs that you may have."

"

I contacted accurate Foundation along with four other foundation companies all of whom provide steel piers for foundation work that I knew I needed.  Rusty Woods came out and looked over the situation and worked me up a proposal to do the work.  I spoke with Rusty several times by phone in the next couple weeks to address variations in the work to be done.   It was very nice working with Rusty.

To Rusty's credit he picked up on several things that needed to be done that the civil engineer who provided me an engineering report had not recommended.  But to me they seemed logical to be included so I revised the scope of work to reflect several of his suggestions.

A neighbor was also researching foundation work so we started comparing notes.  We even requested bids from the same companies and decided to visit a job site of each of the bidders to see exactly how the work was performed.  After visiting an Accurate site, we came away very impressed with the work being done although we had concern about the angle support bracket being used not being long enough to support a good portion of the perimeter beam.

I spoke to Rusty about this and nothing really came of it.  This was the support bracket they used and it was Rusty's opinion that it provided enough support.

Accurate's bid was the third lowest and my neighbor actually chose Accurate to do his work and he was very satisfied.  I chose another bidder because of its warranty, approached used to support the house and cost.

Regarding the warranty Accurate offers, it appears to be a lifetime warranty but in actuality, it is lifetime on the steel piers only. Other restrictions apply.  Of the five companies I considered, only two companies provided what I consider a true lifetime warranty. All the others had warranties that appeared to be lifetime but the lifetime was on the steel piers. I chose one of those that provided the lifetime warranty and the other company was the most expensive of all those I considered.

"Both JB and Hunt came out to give an estimate. Thankfully they both agreed that at this time there is no need to work on the foundation. That was a welcome surprise. I don't know how to review both companies, but both were wonderful and courteous."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

No, you shouldn’t lay bricks directly on dirt. While it might seem like a shortcut, it leads to a patio that shifts, sinks, and becomes a maintenance headache. Dirt expands, contracts, and erodes—none of which mix well with long-term stability. To build something that lasts, excavate the topsoil, compact a layer of crushed gravel, and add a coarse sand-setting bed. This layered base gives your bricks proper support, allows drainage, and helps block weeds from creeping through. Cutting corners here just means you’ll spend more time—and money—repairing your brick patio later.

In some cases, black stains on brick are caused by organic substances like algae and mold. However, it's more likely that the black spots you're noticing on your bricks come from carbon from vehicle exhaust or soot. Black stains can usually be removed by scrubbing the brick with a brush and masonry cleaner or power washing.

The exact cost of bricks depends on the type and size of the bricks you use for your project. Generally, standard clay bricks cost between $350 and $850 for a thousand bricks, or an average of $550. Brick veneer costs around the same for materials but is easier to install than solid bricks, so you’ll save on labor by choosing this option.

Yes, it is normal to see some minor hairline cracks in brick or mortar over time, often due to natural foundation settling. However, not all cracks are harmless. You should be concerned and contact a masonry professional for an inspection if you notice cracks that are getting wider or longer, or if new ones keep appearing. Other serious warning signs that can indicate significant structural or foundation damage include large vertical cracks (especially those that widen as they go up), stair-step cracks, L-shaped cracks, and deep horizontal cracks. Factors like temperature changes, moisture, and structural loading can also cause cracks to form or worsen.

A mason lays brick or stone together, sometimes with mortar in between the bricks and stones, and sometimes without mortar, also called a dry-stack or surface bonding. Examples of work masons do include:

  • Brick, stone, or cement block houses and buildings

  • Freestanding stone or brick walls

  • Chimneys with wood-burning fireplaces

  • Cement block basement or crawl space walls
