The crew arrived promptly on the morning the project began. Sheet plastic was taped over doorway openings surrounding entry way to close off the work space. Pathways of floors and stairway were protected with taped down heavy duty brown paper. Bathroom toilets & pedestal sink were disconnected & put aside. Carpet was ripped out of both bath areas. Old entryway tile was broken up with little jack hammer and removed. Membrane was spread on all surfaces to "float" the tile. AND the tile was laid in all areas... all this on the first day. Entry and 1/2 bath were laid in a staggered pattern and the full bath in a straight pattern... both beautifully done. Second day two workers arrived to grout but realized the premixed grout was different from what the contract specified. The store assistant located the correct color in powder form at a local retail store and the job was begun. Grouting under the white wall molding was problematic, resulting in bleeding of the dark color up onto the edge and in the crevices of the white molding. Remedy will necessitate paint touchup later after floors dry. In after thought I have wondered why the moldings were not taped off with painters tape to protect them from the dark grout... maybe concern about the grout adhering to the tape and resulting in rough surfaced grout when tape pulled away. We were instructed not to allow the dogs to walk over tile as nails could make holes in soft grout. Drying time... 72 hours. Four days later, early a.m., the office assitant applied sealant to the grout and cleaned the moldings as best she could. But touch-up painting still necessary. Forster Tile made every effort to please, and had we insisted I believe they would have done the touch-up painting. But we chose to do the painting ourselves. Jason and Zach removed all the cracked tiles and replaced them with new ones (we had them left over from building the house). Zach returned later to match the grout to the various colors it had become after 13 years of wear in different parts of the house. He did an outstanding job. No one could tell where the replacements were placed. The problem: John, the owner, promised us that the work would be done with a "wet method" which would allow no dust to escape. This did not happen. The sticky dust was all over the house. They did throw sheets over some of the cabinets near the work areas and used big fans to blow some of the dust out of the house, but dust was everywhere and very difficult to clean up. In addition, a living room window was left open in their hasty cleanup and we didn't discover it for two days. We are very satisfied with the finished work but did not appreciate the cleanup required by us! This review was written by Helen Tenney. They were prompt and responsive in giving me their estimate, unlike some other flooring installers here in Bryan. The office staff is pleasant, prompt and friendly. When their installer arrived to begin putting down the floor, he discovered the slab wasn't level at all and needed to be floated. Greg Zwernemann, the owner, was here at the house within 15 minutes. He said this happens perhaps once in every hundred jobs. They HAD to fix the wavy slab - can't put a new floor on an uneven surface. It took 70 bags of self-leveling concrete. Greg gave me a break on the cost. He said he wasn't making any profit on this part of the job. I want to point out that, although the total cost was quite high, their charges for installation were extremely reasonable. Most of the cost was because I chose to install walnut flooring, which is among the most expensive on the market. Then, when I was moving in, the movers caused a significant amount of damage to MY BRAND NEW FLOOR. They dragged furniture instead of carrying it. The moving company tried every which way to weasel out of accepting responsibility. Greg interceded on my behalf and got them to make it right. The repair work was done so well you would never even guess the floor had been damaged. Another thing they did was send Hugo to put down a few tiles that were needed when I pulled some cabinets in order to have a gas range installed in place of an electric cooktop. Hugo was here for maybe 15 minutes. Perfect tile installation. Gosh, he's good! I'm contemplating a bathroom remodel and if that comes to pass I will specify Hugo from Zwernemann for the tile work.

Our house is about 20 yrs old. Our issue was sewer smell and flies in the master bath. We had researched online and tried many remedies, but none worked. When the plumber arrived, I was shocked that they removed their shoes before entering our home! That was a nice touch! I then realized that he was not alone, but had a full team with him. We all gathered in the bathroom and I fully explained the problems we were having. He explained that he would first take a look into the pipes with a camera to diagnose any blockages or broken pipes. The camera uncovered some interesting issues. The lines were covered in "debris" and "sludge" that the camera was not very efffective. His team then was able to "clean" the line with presserized water to allow the camera to better see. After the pipes were cleared from years of sludge, it was determined that our line in the slab was not installed properly and it has a "bow" in it which causes the water and sludge to stand. The pipe still had a good flow, so his team decided that it was not an issue that was in need of immediate repair. The team then returned to the bathroom and removed the cover to our shower drain, tub drain and sink drains to determin if standing water in these was the issue. They determined that all were draining porperly and sealed properly and not allowing for standing water for flies to breed. He then asked if he could remove the toliet because it was the likely source of the smell and the flies. Upon removal, it was discovered that the "flange" was cracked and was allowing seepage under the toliet. The flange was not adjusted or a new one installed peoperly when the bath was remodeled and tile was put in about 5 years ago. It seems the plumber who installed the tolied after the tile was put in simply chose to tighten the toilet without having the flange at the proper height. This caused the flange to be put under stress and eventually crack and cause release of gas and sludge under the toliet through the crack. The reason it did not leak from under toilet was because the remodeling contactor also used tile morter to seal the toliet base to the tile. The plumbing team replaced the damaged flange and installed a new flange at the proper height. The toilet was also reinstalled with new wax seals and new bolts. As a courtesy, he also changed out our water line because it was a cheaper plastic one. He recommended the metal hose connections asthey will last much longer and have a very small history of failure. Again, he replaced at no charge while explaining. After watching his service team analyse the issue and not jump to conclusions or try to sell me services I really didn't need, I asked about another issue. Our house is about 20 yrs old and believe it or not, we were still using the original water heater that wasinstalled when the house was built. I'm not a plumber, but I did know that it ws time to replace as I did not wish to return to a flooded house one day soon. John Gause team looked at the heater and again analysed. He offered two options of replacement sizes he recommended and offered very comfortable pricing. Needless to say, I now have all of my issues repaired and a brand new water heater at far less than I was expecting to pay. Thanks to the team I met, John, Brad, Keith and Spencer. Needless to say I think they really went above and beyond and I feel confident in their work. FAQs for ceramic tile service projects in Bryan, TX
The average cost of installing tile is around $2,000, ranging between $400 and $6,500, depending on the type of tile, square footage of tile, and whether or not your tiling contractor performs site preparation, like removing old tile. On average, you can expect to pay between $5 and $45 per square foot, largely depending on the type and quality of the tiles you choose. For example, ceramic and travertine tile cost about $1 per square foot, but luxury tile options like marble cost up to $350 per square foot, not including labor.
Yes, tiling a bathroom is a great way to boost the value of your home. Tile is a highly durable and attractive building material, and savvy buyers will know they’re getting a low-maintenance flooring or wall covering that can last for 75 years or more. Keep in mind that the return on investment from tiling your bathroom will likely be higher if a professional tile installer does the work. Tiling is a complicated job, and mistakes will be very evident and detract from the appearance and value of the finished work.
On average, you can expect the tiling in your bathroom to take around 12 hours, usually spread over at least two to three days. The process can take longer if your tile installer needs to remove old tile first. Tiling a floor takes around six hours, and tiling the shower area often takes six to 10 hours. Some factors that affect the length of the project include the type of tile, the layout of your bathroom, and any prep work that your installer needs to do beforehand. It’s best to have an alternate bathroom available during the process.
Tile will almost always last longer than laminate flooring, regardless of the type of tile installed. Porcelain tile can last for 75 years or more with proper care, and even less durable ceramic tile will last for 60 years or more, provided they’re installed by a tile professional. On the other hand, laminate flooring has an average lifespan of around 20 years, and you might only get 10 to 15 years out of low-cost laminate flooring. As such, tile will add far more value to your home than laminate.
To find a local tile installer, your first step is to connect with professionals in your area and interview them. Ask the following questions to get a sense of their experience and ability:
How many years have you been in business?
Do you have a list of references I can contact?
What materials—tile, thinset, and mortar—will you use?
Does your pricing include materials and labor?
How long will my bathroom or kitchen be out of commission while you work?
Then, compare prices to find the best value for your investment.
