"Kevin was amazing; professionally and personably. My door locks were getting difficult to turn so I hired Arborne Locksmith to replace them. After discussing with Kevin about my options I decided on the MTL600 locking system. I’m very pleased with the results. I highly recommend Arborne Locksmith."

"He offered ideas and recommendations for the purpose of my locksmith needs. The job got done and got done well. Even though the visit took place much later than the scheduled time, I expected as much because of the nature of the service. For example myself, when I spoke to them on the phone about what I thought needed to be done for my home lock system, I ended up requesting a lot more doors than I had told them previously, and all of it got completed in one visit. I also liked that I felt I was doing business with locals, not some big chain store corporation. Great communication by all involved. When the tech though he was going to be delayed getting to my place. Called me again for another delay. But I really appreciated all the updates. I already booked an appointed for a car key fob and the installation of another guardian lock on a house door. Excellent service overall!"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Yes, as long as it’s thick enough for the deadbolt. Most interior hollow core doors are at least 1 1/2-inches thick, which is usually the minimum requirement for a deadbolt. You’ll want to find the lock block first before installing. Also, most hollow doors require additional reinforcement for locks, such as a reinforcement plate or plywood block.

If your door handle turns without opening, the most likely culprit is a loose or stripped spindle. This part connects the handles to the latch mechanism, and when it’s not properly engaged, turning the handle does nothing. Other issues might include a broken latch, loose screws, or even something small blocking an inner mechanism. In any case, it’s usually a matter of tightening, adjusting, or replacing a worn-out part inside the handle assembly—or calling in a professional to do it for you.

The cost-effectiveness of fixing or replacing a door lock depends on the severity of the issue. Repairing a minor problem, such as loose screws or a need for lubrication, is usually cheaper than replacing the entire lock. However, replacing the lock if it is severely damaged, outdated, or lacks security features may be a better long-term investment. New locks often have improved security features, enhancing your property's safety.

The easiest way to pick a lock is by using a titanium rake pick. This type of lock pick comes in a variety of shapes used to simulate different key configurations but generally has a tip with a bent design. Rake picks are the most beginner-friendly lockpicks and the simplest to learn how to use.

When you take a key to a hardware store or a locksmith for copying, you can expect the key-cutting process to take as little as 30 seconds. The key copier will review your current key to decide on the correct blank. Then, your original key and the blank are inserted into a key duplication machine to cut an exact key copy. When it’s all said and done, you can have a new key in your hand in just a couple of minutes.
