Customers say: True professional

"This is the go to tree service company in our area in my estimation, the ower & his two man crew did an outstanding job removing a dead 60 yr old Maple , the professionalism combined with their friendly personalities made me a retired senior very comfortable, the pricing is very fair & their attention to detail is excellent, they also went out of their way for full clean-up also stacking wood for me to use later , I have had experience with other tree services in the past but none impressed me like J&T tree service.....also want to give a shout-out to the tree climber who showed excellent knowledge of the job & the skill to do it right."

"I needed some tree branches trimmed out and away from the power lines leading from the power pole to our house. Demetree Service called and scheduled my free quote for the work after I asked for it on Angie's List. Demetri came on Monday morning and gave me a good quote price on the work. He was able to come back this Tuesday morning, June 16, 2026. He came early, got to the work quickly, was super skilled and excellent at the task. He had it knocked out super fast. His assistant moved the downed tree branches away to the area of our yard that I'd previously indicated it could go. I'm super happy with his work and prices. Demetri pointed out that there was an overly heavy spot on a tree that has concerned my Mom for years closer to our house. He gave me a quote for trimming it down. It's a good price too. Lord willing, I hope to call Demetri back soon for more of his excellent tree trimming services. Thanks Demetri! The photo is the after shot. I didn't think to snap a b4 one."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Leaving the tree stump and letting it rot is never a good idea, as this leads to insect infestations and other frustrations. Additionally, decomposing trunks are at risk for diseases that spread out to the remaining plants and trees in the yard, thus ruining your whole outdoor aesthetic. It's usually best to remove the stump at the same time you remove the tree.

The best tools for tree removal include a chainsaw for large trees, an ax for notching and cutting down small trees, and a wedge to help control the direction a tree falls in. A hatchet can be useful for very small trees, but won’t be effective for medium to large trees.

Some trees, such as silver maples, birches, sycamores, and scotch pines, shed their bark naturally. If your tree is not one that does this, it might have fallen prey to pests, fungi, or diseases. It could also simply be suffering from an extreme weather change, such as a snowstorm or heat wave. If you’re still stumped, consulting with a pro can help you diagnose your tree’s specific problem.

Yes, it’s okay to trim low branches on a tree, also known as limbing up or raising the crown. Essentially, you’ll trim the lower third of the tree (trunk) and leave the upper two-thirds of the tree (crown). Arborists recommend trimming 20% of a tree’s leaves per season for two to three seasons. Trimming low branches allows light to flow through the tree, increasing circulation and making the tree stronger and healthier.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.
