"We really enjoyed the experience with Jim and his crew. I have done a number of tile remodels in another state and have sone experience with this process. Jim really knows what he is doing and responded to my nit-picky concerns with interest and patience. We transformed a tub/shower alcove into a beautiful walk-in shower with a new bathroom floor. "Brandon and crew did a good job. They painted my house, replaced carpet with wood floor and put tile down in bathrooms. Very friendly and polite. After job was completed everything was cleaned and trash was hauled away. I would highly recommend New Age Flooring."

Updating your backsplash without removing the tile is possible in a couple of different ways. First, you can remove the old grout and replace it with new grout to give your backsplash a fresh look. You can also change the grout color, which can have a surprisingly large impact on the final appearance of the backsplash. Finally, you can paint the original tile to totally change the look of the backsplash without removing it.

If the hearth ends against a wall, you can use a tile cutter as you normally would. However, if the edge of your hearth ends with no surface pressing against it,you may want to look into rounded tiles. These give a smooth edge to your hearth and make sure cut edges aren’t visible. You can also see if the tile you have has pieces that have been glazed or rounded on one edge. You’d then cut the tile and place it normally, with the cut edge facing inward. 

The tile spacing you should use will depend on the tile and where you’re installing it. Choosing the right tile spacers to maintain a consistent gap between your tiles is tricky. Generally, tile spacing shouldn’t be less than 2 millimeters on walls and 3 millimeters on floors because of stress relief requirements. Getting it wrong can result in uneven tiles and early repairs.

Add a T-shaped spacer to each corner of a tile when placing it. You’ll want to nudge the tiles closer together so the spacers are touching each corner. When you’re done installing your tile, you can remove each spacer, wash them, and use them for your next project.

It’s not necessarily normal for tiles to lift, although it’s one of the common issues people may have with their tile flooring. Tiles correctly installed by pros with expansion joints should not lift over time. However, if the installation was done poorly, you might see tiles tenting or lifting as the house settles. This is more common in high-moisture areas with extreme temperatures.
