We really enjoyed the experience with Jim and his crew. I have done a number of tile remodels in another state and have sone experience with this process. Jim really knows what he is doing and responded to my nit-picky concerns with interest and patience. We transformed a tub/shower alcove into a beautiful walk-in shower with a new bathroom floor. Our kitchen went from dark and drab to light and elegant. Every T was crossed and nothing left undone, all with a smile. Thanks, Jim!

Given the shephards 3 months to amend their review. Considering this has not happened I'm inclined now to respond On my last visit prior to the review we were asked to quote a secondary bath project and handed a check for the balance so I was quite surprised to see how very unhappy he was at the end. A shower floor had to be completely redone due to suspicious looking indentation throughout. although I took the extra time and supplied the extra tile to make this 100% (so much so we found two bottles of booze left with a thank you note upon arrival (i took pictures before and after). i replaced 3 wall tile in the shower i didn't like and there were also about 6 tiles on the floor outside the shower that were sunk in., although I suggested we had issues with temperature and other things we all believe they either walked on the fresh floors or their dogs did, i never confronted the client as I did not properly close off the room and or put a sign up. regardless i purchased additional material and the labor to replace without argument or question. it was after seeing my poor review I again contacted the shephards by text to ask if there was something else that I could have done better or that was a concern because i was completely blindsided. It was then I discovered that some wall panel he was trying to install did not sit properly on a tile edge that was tilted. I then offered and went out to resolve the issue, now they are finished I saved them 600.00 on a shower kit and am sorry that their base became such an issue as to slam me on the review page. I would work for them again and without hesitation only I don't think they would have me based on the grade

The work was great and he scheduled us quickly as we were selling our home. The only negative was when we asked him to change out one of the tiles after the work was done as it didn't match the others. He said he would but never called.

We could not locate dark travertine to match the existing floor after an extensive search.we replaced product with homeowner supplied replacements. Unfotunatly a lighter shade was the only new tiles that were available. Altho the project was complete i agreed to try and locate one piece of a darker shade without any luck. Communication stopped on both ends i assumed house sold and everyone was happy.

Personal Touch did a wonderful job with the installation for my fireplace. Jim was even gracious enough to work with me on a tight timeline, which is very appreciated. The material was labor & time intensive and not the easiest of installs. It however, was very well executed. Jim and Santana were a pleasure to work with, especially when I had questions or concerns as to what would be the end result. They very much had it under control, and explained everything very well. When a very minor issue revealed itself, Jim was responsive in fixing it. I had no concerns with them being in my home when I wasn't there. That was immensely helpful to me, as was the level of neatness and clean up. I would definitely hire again, and look forward to Personal Touch doing my future tile projects.

Absolutely everything went very smoothly. The owner of Personal Touch Tile was always available to address any concerns or changes that I needed to make, and that meant a lot considering my horrible experience with the previous contractor. He was very upfront about what to expect as far as the demolition process and the time frame for the reinstallation. No hidden fees or charges. I plan on using this company again and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Reasonable price, installed on time (even earlier than expected) and very professional. Jim, the owner, professionally suggested some better ideas in of the layout of the tile. We are so glad we listened. The floors look gorgeous and the house looks bigger now. The same with the grout, he suggested a color--it looks great with the tile and it even ties the kitchen tile with the living room tile. Amazing work! We are very pleased with the installation. We definitely recommend and will use again for floor installation in other rooms in the future.

The work was highly satisfactory. . I actually chose this contractor as a result of reading one of his very few negative reviews, the one written 8/20/14. I concluded from his very long reply that he must have determination and pride in his work – no one otherwise would put that much effort into rebuttal of the rambling criticism. I was not wrong in my inference. The initial diagnostic work regarding why I was having repeated problems with the porch was more thorough and accurate than that I had gotten from other contractors, who seemed to be guessing. I was told what would be required hopefully to prevent recurrence, and what would be done to remedy the underlying condition to the extent possible. There was never an unrealistic promise that the solution would be foolproof. No hard selling or over confidence. The price was fair, reasonable, and as originally quoted, even with several additional small tasks added. A general contractor friend said thatI likely would not get anyone else who was competent to do the work for less. The work was very well done. The schedule for beginning work adhered to and appearances over the 3 to 4 visits required were timely. Jim, the owner, was engaging and easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend this company.

I found some ceramic tile that looks like marble that I liked at a tile store that James recommended. He also has an arrangement with a local glass store, Genesis Glass, so I was able to get a very nice custom shower door for $750. What took me by surprise was the cost of the shower hardware. I had decided on a nickel finish, which is more expensive. that is because I had put up for years with a valve that was very hard to adjust: just a nudge would change it from cool to scalding. So I wanted a valve with two levers: one to control the temperature and one to control the volume. I led me to select a thermostatic control valve instead of the less expensive balanced flow design, which was also more expensive. Finally, I wanted to replace my old shower head with a rainhead and handheld shower heads. James explained to me that he isn't a plumbing contractor so he can't get plumbing hardware at a discount, so I was on my own. I went to Fergusons, which has a good selection of hardware on display. I was intending to get Kohler fittings, but it turned out the price was too high: $2,800. I talked to some friends who had the kind of two-lever control that I was looking for and they checked and found that it was Grohe. When I checked with Ferguson, I found out I could get Grohe hardware for $1,800. However, it turned out there was a downside to this decision: When the order was submitted, it came back with delivery times ranging from two weeks to a month! Working with the sales woman at Fergusons, I was able to reduce that time by making some alternative selections from Grohe equipment that was already in the Ferguson system. Fortunately, the valve was delivered promptly so James could do the tiling and hook the new valve up with my old shower head temporarily and I had to rig a temporary show curtain for several days until the new shower door was installed. When the job was finally done, I was completely satisfied with the result. The tile is laid beautifully (James is a real artist). The shower door is well built and extremely good looking. The rain and handheld shower heads are a major improvement on my old setup and I can adjust the water temperature and volume exactly as I want them! Arguably, the only drawback is that I'm spending more time in the shower! I'm certain you can get tiling work done less expensively but the quality of James' work is worth paying a little extra. When I can afford it, I intend to have him come back a redo the rest of the master bathroom to bring it up to the same quality as the new shower.
Description of Work
I discovered that the shower in my master bathroom was leaking badly. So I hired James Ramberger of Personal Touch Ceramic to fix the leak and, in the process, upgrade the shower. It was done in cheap white tile and had an inexpensive Delta single-handle shower valve. James gave me an estimate of $3200 for the work plus the cost of the tile, shower door and hardware.

Contacted James via Angies and he replied immediately, was able to give us an estimate based on the size of tile area and a photo (VERY CONVENIENT), hired him to do the work and we couldn't be happier. He accommodated our tight schedule of tiling immediately after new countertops went in and prior to appliance installation. Job was a subway tile backsplash wall in kitchen. Will post photos when kitchen is completed. Highly recommend this company.

James and his crew did a fantastic job. It all took some time, partially because he is in Spring Hill, and we are in Mount Juliet, but there was also a great deal to do. We did have one problem with one bathroom where they tried a new type of epoxy without us knowing and it didn't set properly, but they were able to fix it later. I was very pleased with the work and that they had some plumbing knowledge. They did some tricky things that another tile company wouldn't do when we contacted them for an estimate. Our water heater room is a closet that was carpeted by the builder, which seemed ludicrous to me when water may be involved. James was able to take out the old water heater, install tile in the room and then install a new water heater I bought. That was a godsend for us. He also took out an old fiberglass upright shower unit and replace it with a very nice tiled shower with a glass door. He subcontracted out the glass door production, but he installed it. He also took out a portion of the wall at the top of the shower to give us better air flow to the shower. Finally, he also covered up a wooden air return with tile that another tile estimator would not do. In all Personal Touch Ceramic tile did an amazing job for us and took on projects that other tile companies would not do. The house is so much nicer than it was, its almost hard to take in what a transformation the tile made. I am a very happy customer of theirs and I would hire them again anytime.
Description of Work
They installed tile in two bathrooms, replaced a shower with a tile shower, covered a wooden air duct return with tile, removed a water heater and then tiled the water heater room and installed a new water heater. In addition they tiled our kitchen, the entrance area near the front door, and our utility room with the washer and dryer.

I am sorry if we did not respond as you expected. I believe the design and leftover tile will be somewhat of a challenge we do not want to undertake at this time.large porcelain cut to your dimensions would be to scared and ruff at finish. In retrospect I could have expressed this more directly, judging by the review you gave on my estimating i can only imagine the review i would get from attempting to install leftover floor tile in the most intricate pattern as what was presented to me. I do not recall setting an exact date and time in hopes you might have found another contractor that would accommodate you folks.although I did come visit for an hour and write a quote I see now I probably should have just deferred this at the time of our meeting like others you mentioned had done. sorry to disappoint although an F is simply for frustration I imagine.with no thanks given to the time spent reviewing your project and design

There have been numerous complications on the job. Chosen tile is very difficult to work with, walls were not plumb, etc... shower pan laid by another contractor leaked and had to be torn out & redone. I will say that Jim has been working with us to complete the project, and his tile setters have been very polite and accommodating. Verdict, however, is still out. There have been more delays, which has been disappointing, but its my hope that Jim's 'personal touch' will deliver on his promises. He promised me to return next week to complete guest shower 100% and confer on how best to complete the master.

I would like to thank [Member name] for his patience. this product used is a decorative accent tile but was used as the primary selection throughout.very difficult to install straight and true difficult to grout and also to clean.much effort was put into making this look presentable. I think we ultimately succeeded. every time we were asked to do anything with the shower we responded and complied without question. the only downside was the timing and I apologize for that. I believe things are resolved to their satisfaction at this point. I will return if issues arise in the future.I strongly recommended another product for the master shower and believe customer is considering this. although I prepped that area and waterproofed I have left a considerable amount in the contract uncollected until this discussion is reached. or another contractor is hired to cover any such expense. This product is of such a texture and density it is not recommended for the application it is requested in. Once again ,sorry for the delays I hope for you folks the best as you complete all of the other aspects of your renovation projects as well

James is truly a master at his craft. He a very reliable and his charges are very reasonable. We were so happy with his work in our kitchen that we had him back to do a very large job on our outdoor area. He is a perfectionist at his work...even setup the tiles matching the texture and the hue variations prior to setting them. He returned several times of his own accord to correct things that were only noticeable to him and again after several weeks to seal the grout. I would trust his expertise with the smallest or largest of tile jobs and would never consider using anyone else. We are so glad we found him!!

The shower pan test was fine. I knew the cost upfront. The replacement caulk was done very poorly. In fact we ave more water coming out from under the shower door than before. I called him to let him know that we would like for him to redo the caulking with caulk that matched better than what was used and to seal the leak. I have not heard back from him.

tested the shower pan for damage. results were negative.we determined the leak comes from the builder grade shower door they have installed in their walk in shower. It puddles on the floor at the curb when the door swings open and catches on the frame.I showed customer this several times and she clearly recognized and acknowledged this as the issue. I'm sorry she has to spend money on glass enclosure which is quite dissapointing as they did not want to invest any more money into the home as possible due to a possible resale I showed this to her and Offered her my pricing on the door replacement through Genesis Glass. caulking was added as a courtesy and not a remedy. I'm sorry her door will continue to leak until it is either repaired or replaced. I even offered to put in additional caulking if she purchased a color match . I was never notified she had done so, or I would have replaced for them. solution fix the door don't downgrade contractor

Thank you for taking the time to review our work.We are also very happy we were able to help get the finished basement of your home ready to show. Your home is immaculate and I'm sure you will be able to market it for all you expect. It was a pleasure to work with a consumer who new exactly what she wanted and even though there were many projects being completed at once was able to coordinate all this to be done without causing anyone's work to interfere with the others.coming in after painters is a challenge sometimes but we always use caution therefore nothing was marred or damaged during this process. Communication from customer was direct and honest. It is welcome to experience this after having just worked recently with a dishonest consumer. Its projects like this that help me realize why were in business and strong after 30 years and why we continue to strive for offering the best possible personal service.

Not Well! As part of the estimate I paid to have appliances moved. Keep that in mind. Day one: James sent his son, Zach and another worker, John over to remove quarter round, cut down door jambs and install durock (a type of hardy board). During this process John was sure that the refrigerator could not be moved without removing the island. I assured him that the island was in place when the refrigerator was delivered, but he insisted that there was no way. So my husband and I had to pull it out to show him that it would in fact clear the island. Once we got it out in the open for them, they used a furniture mover to pull it out of their way. In the process of doing so, they put four very visible indentions on the side of the refrigerator because they did not use anything to cushion or prevent it from coming in contact with the furniture mover. I pointed this out to Zach immediately and he said that he was going to let James know. Apparently he did not do that. Later in the day, they had worked around to where the stove was located. John refused to move the stove because it was gas and he does not mess with gas, so I had to have my son come over to disconnect the gas line and move the stove into the living room. At this point I was really starting to get anxious because they still had to move the very heavy front load washer and dryer. But we will come back to that. Day two: James starts laying the tiles. At this time I point that I think the door jambs may have been cut too short. James says that it happens sometimes due to the variations in the saw and the floor but assures me that finished product will look fine. Day three: James is supposed to be here at 9:00, but does not show up until well after noon. He finishes laying the tile, except under the washer/dryer which will have to be done on Monday. Day four: Zach and John return to grout the floor and put the remainder of the tile down under the washer/dryer. I have the pedestals under the washer/dryer. I have explained to them that it has to be moved as a unit because of the way that it was put together upon delivery. I know this because one of the units had to be replaced shortly after delivery and they were unable to get them apart at that time and I am sure that nothing has changed since then. Even after I tell them this, they were going to try to separate the appliance from the pedestals! I had to get a little more stern with them before they decided that they would move them in tandem. Now we move on to the grouting...which I should tell you that I was charged $57.25 per bag for three bags of this power grout that is supposed to be the best of the best, but is very hard to work with. Well let me just tell you, that grout was everywhere! It was on my baseboards, cabinets and walls. I cleaned for three days after they left trying to get that off of all surfaces. James comes over to get his payment, I tell him that the work is not done yet and I will pay upon completion. So he decides to stick around and help out to move the process along. During this time I again point out that the door jambs look terrible. He says he will put caulk down to cover any imperfections. It looked hideous! I was not happy. Day five: Upon further inspection of the tile and grout and caulk, my husband and I called James to let him know that we were unhappy. He makes arrangements to come over and talk to us about our concerns. When he came over and I tried to explain to him that the door jambs were a major concern and told him that I would like for them to be fixed, he said "The only way to do that is to replace them and I am NOT going to do that" I then pointed out a few other things to which he replied "Oh so now we are going to have a punch list!" at this point I ask my husband to take him outside to talk because things were heading south. I called one of my neighbors over to be an unbiased third party and invited James back in. When the neighbor told him that it looked like crap too, he decided to talk a little more reasonably. He agreed that some of the cuts were bad and that he would come over and remove all the caulk and replace the tiles that were just bad cuts. There was at least one tile that was not even slid under the door jambs that had been but too short! I did have two other tile installers come over and they both pointed out several things that were done incorrectly that I would have never known. They both also let me know that the expensive power grout was absolute overkill and were not sure that there was even a difference if we would have used regular grout with the power boost. James did come back and remove all the caulk and replace one tile. He put some kind of filler in the chips that had been made to all the door trim and baseboards and left us a sanding block to sand off the excess. I ended up having to hire a painter to come in and repair all that and re-paint which cost me an additional $237. I am now fighting with his insurance company about the refrigerator replacement or compensation for repairs. I would also like to point out that on the day that he came to do the repairs he told us that he was going to try to get his insurance company to replace our refrigerator with a new one and ask us to sign a paper stating that he could have our damaged one so that he could sell it on craigslist and recoup some his deductible. My husband, myself and a friend were all here and heard this. I am so glad that it was not just my word against his in this case. In retrospect, I wish I would have gone through Lowes or Home Depot because both are large companies and they would have stood behind their sub-contractors work and made it right.

wildly exaggerated and almost completely inaccurate.my insurance agent was called the day I was notified her appliance was damaged. she called me three different occasions with husband as third party as though there was some pending legal battle to in sue. her floor turned out perfect except for a undercut tile.she now is persuing damage I am not even aware of through my agent. asking for discount for cash should have clued me into someone being unethical.I hope she gets as much money back from my insurance company as she can. and maybe donate the old appliance to habitat for humanity as I suggested. some people are just bitter and you cannot please them all.I did try very hard in this case though.I suggest anyone on Angies List to avoid this consumer.I only wish I was warned Update 8/28/14 1) It would now appear a settlement has been reached between my insurance adjuster and the customer. I am told she demanded 1000.00 for a refrigerator and painting of her kitchen. Threatening a lawsuit It should be noted the refrigerator in question was over ten years old and had only very slight cosmetic damage which is only visible when the Appliance is pulled out of its nook (completely covered on three sides). At the time of purchase this unit was less the 900.00 new. We stand firm in making sure insurance is in place to cover any damage, regardless of age and appearance, that may take place inadvertently Investigation showed this did not warrant a complete replacement, as was demanded. Along with being compensated customer requested and was granted rights to keep the old unit. 2) As to the painting. We discussed on day one that shoe molding removal would show areas to be needing paint touched up against the base and were assured “no problem” as they had planned to repaint Entire kitchen as they did behind the refrigerator they pulled out while we were there. We offer a paint service only if agreed to in terms and becomes part of the contract. What needs to be addressed is how this painting now becomes a part of the insurance claim after the fact? 3) As to the gouges that were apparently done to the wood work. I was personally shown three very small dings in the door casing by homeowners while I was out to perform All of the items on her list punch list .(This a term given to these items after completion and is not aggressive or derogatory).I filled these small dings, under the guidance of the husband, with wood putty along with taking special care to remedy any and all items on this list. I was thanked and left I finished this on a Saturday at their convenience. 4) My son was verbally abused by this woman on a daily basis concerning his hair not his work ethic. He was never asked to leave and stayed ,even though completely uncomfortable due to his professionalism, to the end. 5) many times she would start screaming at someone Unrelated to us or our project. 6) No excessive grout residue was ever left behind. I was told however she spent three days cleaning her patio after her husband completed A project out there as well. 7) Power grout by TEC is not in the same class as regular grout and boost additive. It is proven acid and stain resistant and is a premium quality product used by professionals in the industry. 8) It does however retail for 81.00. She paid contractor pricing that I passed on to them. We take every comment personally and professionally as constructive criticism good or bad. Although the review was meant to hurt my company’s reputation it should be noted that the forum review is meant for honest construction related experience and not an avenue to vent out Personal frustration like other social networks especially those which are in part completely untrue slanderous and spiteful. I also sign a release statement agreeing this comment made is true and accurate

Job took approximately one and one-half day. Steve did an outstanding job. Steve worked constantly, not stopping to take a break for approximately 8 hours. He proved to be very helpful without being insistent in selection of a grout color. James Ramsberger, the owner came by to check on his employee's work when it was complete to be certain I was pleased. He will return in three days to seal the grout. Very professional company and personnel.
