"Reasonable price, installed on time (even earlier than expected) and very professional. Jim, the owner, professionally suggested some better ideas in of the layout of the tile. We are so glad we listened. The floors look gorgeous and the house looks bigger now. The same with the grout, he suggested a color--it looks great with the tile and it even ties the kitchen tile with the living room tile. Amazing work! We are very pleased with the installation. We definitely recommend and will use again for floor installation in other rooms in the future."

"

I had tile flooring installed last year in my kitchen and noticed how the grout was cracking throughout the kitchen. I called South Gate Home Improvements for an estimate to replace the tile. With a very reasonable estimate I had them to install the new tile.

Prior to him installing my new tile he showed me how the previous contractor did not screw down the backer board but used roofing nails instead which was the reason for my grout cracking. He spent the time correcting the deficiency and installed the new tile. The design I chose called for some precise cuts with the tile. Mr. Perabeau took his time and now I have beautiful solid tile flooring. I highly recommend him for all your remodeling needs."

"Company seemed professional and eager to help with our problem.  Promises of quality work were made.  Open-ended estimate given due to unknown seriousness of problem.  Also open-ended time frame given for same reason. Original time frame was a week to ten days, and it took 4 weeks. Problem was worse than originally thought.  They did a great job tearing out and rebuilding floor and walls, cleaning up and hauling away debris.  We were very happy with the progress up to this point.   Unfortunately, something went wrong with the sealing of the marble tile on the floor and in the shower, which made it necessary to strip the sealer and buff the tile. At first they tried just polishing the tile, which didn't take off the sealer. Then they  used a stripper, which caused the original sheen on the tile to be marred.  In most of the shower, the old sealer was not totally removed. They came back more than once to fix the problem and left with the problem not properly taken care of, as well as care  not being taken to prevent dust from getting all over the bedroom and the rest of the house. They offered to come back again, but by then we had enough of the mess the polishing was making in our house.  We also lacked confidence that they could fix the problem.  Also, in some places the grout was not done well with voids and gaps in it.  I had to clean old sealer off shower tile and re-grout places on the floor where grout was missing.  The marring of the tile from the stripper can still be seen, however.  We paid the full amount billed with no argument.  The project started with such high expectations but ended up with a sour taste in our mouth due to over promising and under performance."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The tile trim you use will depend on a few factors, including design preferences, budget, and whether the project is DIY or not. You might choose plastic trim if you want an easier DIY job that is more budget-friendly. There are also more color options available in plastic. On the other hand, you might choose metal to match your fixtures or for areas with heavy use.

There are a few different tools you can use to score tiles. Manual tile cutters or tile scribes work well for scoring in straight lines. Tile nippers are one of the best options for scoring because they can make small and irregular cuts that larger tools may not be able to handle.

Yes, tile floor removal is a physically demanding project that takes between eight and 12 hours per 100 square feet. It also requires protective gear and closing the area off with construction-grade plastic sheeting to avoid dust and damage to other parts of your home.

It’s possible to walk on a clay tile roof, but you run the risk of breaking or cracking the tiles if you’re not careful, so it’s best not to walk on it if you can avoid it. If you or a contractor needs roof access, be sure to distribute your weight evenly and step on the portions of tile that are also supported underneath, which depends on your tile design. Walking on any roofing material is inherently dangerous, so wear rubber-soled shoes and use safety equipment if you need to access your roof.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.
