"Beyond great experience. Great customer service. I originally was interested in tankless. Paul went over everything in detail. He had a better option. I will be using him as my new plumber. No fuss, no muss. Great overall experience. Highly recommend for any of your plumbing needs."

"During the virus crises my son and his family were in dire need of a plumber, one is disabled and they were suffering other virus related setbacks; I am stuck away in another state and can't get home to help out; Roto-Rooter was beyond helpful, sent someone out immediately, then called to advise me progress and details; and best of all, they allowed me to take care of the bill by phone to help out the family. Couldn't have been a more pleasant, professional experience."

"Our water heater started leaking and we knew it had to be replaced. I requested quotes from homeadvisor and they responded immediately and had someone out to look at the job at 9am the next day. They gave me a decent price and said they could have the new one installed in 2 hours. They were fast, courteous and affordable. I would recommend them."

"As always, wonderful job! A+++++++ Quality work, fair pricing! We have been using Ben Franklin, for I think about seven years now :-) We will go with no one else. I’ll be honest, in our area, professional behaving plumbers, are actually quite rare to find. SAVE yourself! So you don’t have to experience substandard work, exorbitant bills, or upsetting experiences with RUDE, unprofessional business owners. We are in Georgetown, and never found a good fit for us with any of the companies down here.(we did not try all) At BEN FRANKLIN, EVERY single technician, receptionist, owner, or other employee that has ever helped us, has ALWAYS been friendly, respectful, professional, kind, helpful, and pretty much any other positive quality that you would want in a business and more importantly, the qualities of someone who you would come into to your home! A++++++"

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

No, putting new plumber’s tape over old plumber’s tape is not recommended. The old tape connection may not be completely adhered and could cause a leak.

Instead, remove the old tape completely, clean off the pipe threads with a clean rag and wire brush if needed, then apply new plumber’s tape to make your connection.

Turn on the water to each faucet and check the area for water trickling out from anyplace but the spout. Next, shut off the water and see if there’s any residue which could indicate a worn down rubber seal. If you find any water, you can replace the rubber seal or have a plumber do it for you.

There are many reasons why water pipes leak. The most common reasons include clogs, broken rubber seals that deteriorate over time, corrosion on copper, brass, or galvanized pipes, and damaged pipe joints.

You might also have a leak if your water pressure is too high (usually higher than 60 psi) or if your fixtures have a crack. Moreover, natural changes in the area around your underground pipes, like growing tree roots, flooding, or earthquakes, can cause leaky water pipes.

While you don’t have to run out and immediately buy a new toilet at the first sign of a clog, if the toilet keeps clogging because it’s a low-flow or poorly designed model, a new toilet may be the way to go. If your toilet keeps clogging, you can try using less toilet paper, adjusting the fill valve, checking the toilet vent pipe on the roof, and using a toilet auger to make sure nothing is stuck in the pipe or trap.

A bit of water in the bowl can help unclog a toilet, especially if you're using a plunger. However, if the bowl is full to the brim, you'll need to strap on gloves and remove some of the wastewater in a cup or container so it doesn't overflow when you try to unblock the pipe. If you're concerned about it filling further, manually close the flapper in the toilet tank or turn off the water supply to the toilet.
